    Thanks to consistent growth of economy and multidomestic exchange, the logistics industry has been witnessing buoyant growth and will continue this growth momentum in years to come (Rajaram, 2011). The demand for logistics services in China has been largely fueled by consistent growth of economy, and key industries such as automotive, engineering, pharmaceuticals and food processing. Similarly, individuals’ demand for logistics service has been also dramatically increased because of the convenience provided by modern technology such as online shopping. As a result, express companies were founded and promptly expanded to fulfill the customers’ demands for a rapid, efficient and secure shipping service. In China, there are currently more than 1,000 registered express companies operating and offering logistics services to either individuals or organizations. However, it is true that various problems are existing within those companies, which lead to significantly negative impacts on organizational effectiveness and relationship with clients. This report will focus on one representative express company in China, which is called Shentong Express and investigate the company’s problems and underlying causes behind them. This report will also recommend solutions that address the symptoms and causes to improve the organization’s performance and productivity.…

    In the past, the leadership style of Malaysian managers has been different from our Western counterparts due to strong cultural differences. However, with the advent of knowledge economy and the transformation of workforce, leadership style of Malaysian managers is said to be altered. This research explored the current state of leadership style among Malaysian managers and its effect on the perception of effectiveness. A survey method was employed and the data was drawn from subordinates who were working in private and public sectors in the Klang Valley area. When compared to past literature, the results imply that a shift has taken place primarily with regards to autocratic leadership. Respondents attributed leadership effectiveness to the use of participative and nurturant-task leader behavior. Gender differences were not significantly evident. Reading most Management textbooks would readily reveal that leadership is one of the four management function that needs to be assumed by any manager. Although numerous studies of effective leadership style for managers have been undertaken in the past, interviews conducted with practitioners and indications identified through literature review revealed that the leadership styles that were perceived to be effective in the Malaysian context formerly may no longer bear significance in the current scenario. For example, several managers and subordinates who were interviewed in the process of this study strongly stated that autocratic style that used to be predominant in Malaysian organizations can no longer be relied upon.…

    One of the most important things that I want to take out of this class is the ability to apply the concepts and theories that I have learned to real life situations. I often relate the various concepts from this course to my place of employment—the Office for University Advancement. A few weeks ago my boss asked the entire Phonathon staff of eighteen people to break into three equal groups for a "fun activity". The activity was a scavenger hunt to promote unity amongst the staff. We had a thirty-minute time limit to complete our task and had to be back at the starting point before it was up, or else the team was disqualified. Also, the team that completed the scavenger hunt the fastest and most accurately won fifteen minutes off of their work shift for one night in the semester. During this activity, I observed many concepts that we have covered in this course. I will describe the following ten themes: teams, time constraints in team decision making, organizational commitment, task interdependence, role perceptions, ethical behavior, perception, motivation, positive reinforcement, and need for achievement.…

    In this rapidly growing dynamic environment, organisations are fighting a constant battle to remain competitive; in such, the usage of teams has grown to be a criterion for organisational success. Organisations create teams for various reasons. Teams give a sense of responsibility and empowerment to members who are performing the tasks assigned.     Mayor Sam Small is nearing completion of his first term in office. He feels his record has been pretty good, except for the controversial issue of housing. He has been able to avoid doing anything about housing so far and feels very strongly that this issue must not come to a head before the next election. The voters are too evenly divided on the issue, and he would lose a substantial number of votes no matter what stand he took. Yet with pressure increasing from both sides, he has to do something.
