Oral for the Banning of Dangerous Dogs
Intro:
In this oral I hope to persuade you that banning dangerous breeds of dogs is the right thing to do with these following arguments, the dog and its owner, the Behaviour of the dogs and the affect they have on our community. My solution/ point of view to this problem is to not destroy/kill the dogs but breed them out. It is a more human and caring way of doing it.
The definition of a dangerous dog is.....
A dog that aggressively attacks a person or other animals, causing injury or death. A dangerous dog is a dog that has attacked and bitten a person and caused serious injury, has caused harm to people more than once or has been trained to attack or bite a person.The American Pit Bull Terrier (or Pit Bull Terrier) is one of the top 5 dangerous dogs and is found in Victoria.
ARGUMENT ONE - EFFECT ON COMMUNITY
To my first argument being the effect these dogs have on our community. In Queensland alone about 500 children a year are treated for dog bites in emergency departments. Dangerous dogs are all around our community and we cannot ignore this. The NSW government's research found these breeds Australian Cattle Dog, German Shepherd, Bull Terrier types and Rottweilers are most likley to bite than others.
Their statistics showed that these breeds were responsible for 75% of dog bites in Australia. In order to keep our community a safe one we must act now and become more knowledgable of the circumstances of having dangerous dogs in our community, we must begin to breed these dogs out, not kill, but breed.
Although there are some people that don’t agree with this and have these dogs as pets and have no problems with them at all. You would think if the The legislation on restricted dog breeds had been widened to include cross-breeds it would show how dangerous these dogs are and that having them as pets is a serious risk - On Jan 16th 2011 in the U.S a dog that belonged to a family friend, a dog that was raised around the owners children with no
