Imagine being isolated from the world and everyone else for being black, being mistreated for not being the same as everyone else, or even not being able to follow your dreams because you’re a women, these are the issues That Steinbeck introduced to us in the book Mice of Men. In the book there was many issues and the ones I saw were the most important and that were still to this day happening, were Crook racial slur problem, Lennie’s mental health issues, and Curl’s wife issue in regard to being unhappily stuck with Curly instead of perusing her dreams.

Through this the author wants to give us a hint of how women were treated. In the book we got a bit of a flashback of what Curly’s wife dreams and how they didn’t come true because of negativity through her mother who always told her she “can’t do it”. Back then human rights issues was a big problem because it prohibited women’s from doing what they wanted and follow their dreams and Steinbeck show it through Curlys wife. “If I catch one man, and he's alone, I get along fine with him. But just let two of the guys get together an’ you won't talk. Jus’ nothing but mad. You're all scared of each other, that’s what. Ever’ one of you’s scared the rest is going to get something on you.” In this quote it shows how after not meeting her dream how miserable Curly’s wife is that she just goes around trying to entertain herself. Everyone around knows what she’s really capable of and she got herself a bad reputation that they call her ‘jail bait’ or ‘tart’.
