Oodgeroo Noonuccal, an Australian poet, uses her work to convey the aspects of Australianexperience. Noonuccals poems mainly focus on her own perspective of the culture and beliefs of the both the Indigenous people and white Australians, the racial discrimination that the Aboriginessuffered and the Indigenous peoples spirituality. Oodgeroo uses language and poetic techniquessuch as colloquial language, metaphor and repetition, to portray these aspects.No more Boomerang compares the differences between the two unlikely cultures of the Aboriginesand the white Australians. The composer uses colloquial language along with many Aboriginal termsand slang, for example, No more corroboree, Gay dance and din, to create a closer relationship tothe reader, allowing them to relate to the text as the language is familiar to them. Readers candifferentiate between the two cultures with the repetition of the two juxtaposing phrases, Nomore and Now which emphasises the Aborigines culture vanishing while the whiteAustralians culture rising. And work like a nigger / For a white man meal,uses enjambment tohighlight the juxtaposing ideas, and work for a nigger, conveys the low standards of living of anAborigine using colloquial language while For a white man meal, portrays the high standards of living of a white Australian using formal language. Noonuccal uses a variety of language and poetictechniques in this piece to convey the culture of the Australian experience.Racism is conveyed in Son of mine, it implies of the ungrateful deeds which the white Australianshave committed. The alliteration of the h sound in this context, I could tell of heartbreak, hatredblind, creates a mood of sadness as the h sound creates a soft and silent sound, which symboliseshow the Aborigines felt when they were victims of racial discrimination. Oodgeroo uses juxtapositionin the phrase, When lives of black and white entwine, to contrast between the Indigenous and thewhite Australians, in terms of their race and colour. The idea of black and white which refers to theAborigines and white Australians juxtaposes with the idea of these two cultures being able toentwine, meaning creating peace with each other, this emphasises the poems underlyingmessage, which is for a world of equality. In this poem, Noonuccal uses poetic techniques to portraythe racial discrimination of the Australian experience.We are going, conveys the spirituality of the Aborigines. It lists the many belongings of theAboriginal culture that make up their identity. We are the old sacred ceremonies, the law of theelders. / We are the wonder tales of Dream Time, the tribal legends told, the metaphors used,compares the Aborigines to the sacred objects that define them, this conveys the strong connectionbetween the Indigenous people and their spirituality. The repetition of We are emphasises thatall the objects listed, create the identity of the Aborigines. The phrase also uses inclusive language,making the reader feel connected and able to relate to the text. A repetition of the word gone juxtaposes with the repetition of metaphors, it highlights the Aborigines identity being taken away,as all the metaphors listed are said to be gone, it symbolises the Aborigines becoming insignificant.The Aborigines spirituality is portrayed in this poem, We are going using poetic and languagetechniques.Oodgeroo Noonuccal uses a variety of both language and poetic techniques, such as, slang andsymbolism to portray the aspects of Australia. The aspects conveyed, are the culture of both theIndigenous and white Australians, the racial discrimination of which the Indigenous peopleundergoes and the spirituality of the Indigenous people.

    In Stanza 2, the man washes himself up at a tap where he steps into mud, as there is always mud at taps. ‘Vandals Lavatory’, Grey uses the word ‘Vandal’ as he does not appreciate people vandalizing the streets to ruin the beauty of the Australian Coast Lines.     ‘ Nobody calls me a wog anymore’ by Komninos Zervos explores the importance of being proud of who you are no matter what background is. The poem emphasises the challenges faced moving to Australia with a different background and how to overcome those challenges throughout every day life aswell as Adam Hill’s interview with Ahn Do emphasises the proudness and gratefulness he has for moving being who he is and for having people around him that made his life so much better.     During the course of the poems ‘’Singh Song!’’ and ‘’Checking Out Me History’’, both personas show a strong link to their cultural heritage through both the content of the poems and the use of nonstandard English to emphasise their accent. The speaker in ‘’Checking out Me History’’ seems to feel irritated that he has been ‘’blind[ed]’’ to his own roots and cultural background, using simple rhyme to emphasise the silliness of the white history he’s been taught rather than his own. Whereas in ‘’Singh Song!’’ the individual seems to be more keen to adapt his culture and traditions to his life in Britain. This is indicated in two places of the poem: firstly when he refers to the ‘Sikh love site’’, which could be a reference to online dating and a modern, western version of an arranged marriage and then when he refers to the ‘’brighty moon’’ which could link to the colloquial term ‘’Blighty’’ for Britain, indicating that his life in Britain is ‘bright’. In contrast, the speaker in COMH feels that ‘’dem’’ – an unspecified authority figure, possibly a parent or teacher – have stopped him from seeing and learning about his own culture, making the overall tone of the poem much angrier. The use of Caribbean Creole dialect is also used, ‘’wha dem want to tell me,’’ to show how the strong sense of the narrator’s voice links to his identity. Introducing cultural heritage makes the poems main characters interesting as it enables the character to pass knowledge of their history onto the reader; whilst the use of phonetic language and dialect shows the influence of different cultures on the persona, and how two cultures are able to merge together through their languages.…

    This highlights her youth and ignorance towards her Italian heritage. A long shot of the family shows an outpour of rage and highlights the obvious isolation of Josie from the rest of her family. When this happens and she puts on the Italian song once more, the camera then does a close up of Josie looking irritated. This shows the barrier between the Josie and the family and how they don’t understand one another. Josie then leaves the celebration to hang out with her friends. They are typical Australian 17 year olds who want to go to the beach. There is a close up of the p-plate which emphasises the youth and ignorance of the girls. As Josie leaves her nonna is upset and gets angry with Josie’s mother Katrina and Katrina defends her daughter. Katrina is comfortable with her Italian identity and doesn’t understand why Josie can’t conform and accept her heritage and most importantly make her nonna happy. This is a parallel experience to that of Peter, as he refers to seeing his father in his element as being “happy as I’ve never been”. It shows that both Peter and Josie have rejected their identity and as a consequence, feel as if they don’t belong. Katrina and Josie’s mother daughter relationship is alike that of Peter and Feliks. There is obvious admiration poured throughout the poem although they may not have the same views culturally.     Lawson’s “Ballad of the Drover” and Wright’s “South Of My Days” are both narrative poems that tell contrasting stories of outback workers working differently on the land. Lawson employs the 3rd person and utilizes formal language by using powerful adjectives and imagery to represent the solitary personality of the drover. The drover has time to contemplate and take in the beauty of the landscape as he “hums a song of someone”.
