Commercial #1 Old Spice- The Man Your Man Could Smell Like The commercial opens with a man standing in the bathroom wearing only a towel. He says hello to ladies and tells them to compare their man to him, and says they could smell like him if they use Old Spice body wash. A series of unlikely events quickly unfold and then the man says, “Anything is possible when your man smells like old spice and not a lady.” This commercial falls into the is/ought category of fallacies. This commercial places value on the product, Old Spice body wash, that it has some sort of ability to be able to these promise things. The final statement in the commercial insinuates that because your man uses old spice that anything is possible, such as him “having tickets …show more content…
A man is on hold with his cable company, and he gets angry. When he gets angry he goes to play racket ball and gets hit in the eye. When he gets hit in the eye, he goes to the doctor and gets an eye patch. When he has an eye patch people think he’s tough. Then people wonder how tough and chase him and he ends up in a roadside ditch. The fallacy that this commercial has is slippery slope. It is obvious that the commercial falls under this fallacy because the events in this commercial escalate very quickly. There is an unreasonable pace of how this man goes from anger with his cable company to waking up in a roadside ditch. Slippery slopes typically have extreme outcomes, which this commercial did a very good job at achieving. It is highly unlikely that because someone gets angry with their cable company that they will soon end up in a roadside ditch, but this is an example of how direct TV offers to not make their customers frustrated. This commercial offers humor to try and convince people that what they offer is better than the experience of having cable. My reaction to this commercial is thinking that it is funny. Although I have never experienced the extreme events that are displayed, I can relate to the frustration that the guy in the commercial is feeling. Since I have experienced the frustration that happens when you have to sit on hold I can identify with what he feels. This commercial, like the last,

Next he tells us viewers to look down, and the background suddenly drops to him being on a boat with new clothes. While he is on this boat, he lifts up an oyster that has two tickets in it, but they suddenly turn into a handful of diamonds.     One of the rhetorical appeals used quite frequently is Pathos. Pathos is the way the author or in this case Old Spice tries to play with our emotions. The most obvious emotion in this commercial is humor. For example, the way the crazy-stalker mom is following her son around everywhere by riding in a laundry basket attached to her son’s car, highly unlikely but very entertaining and quite funny. People love anything that makes them laugh and Old Spice definitely played that up when those depressed mothers were wailing about their sons leaving them behind and growing up by going out with girls and leaving their chores behind. Another thing that is used as pathos is how relatable it can be for those overbearing mothers and their sons. Some men must see this commercial and think back to when they were teenagers who just wanted to get away and grow up, and even those boys that are currently going through this with their own mothers.     First screen shows the words Jennifer Garner for Neutrogena in all gray. This commercial stars Jennifer Garner who is wearing a white blouse and in the background is an all white room. Jennifer starts off by asking “Does your moisturizer protect your face Against (in blue) the environment?” There is guitar music in the background. She mentions the things on the environment that can affect your skin like the sun, pollution (picture of a city), cold (trees covered in snow), wind (tree blowing in the wind) and indoor heat (heating vent). “Introducing Neutrogena Multi-defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 15” (shows bottle) Bottle is white with a gray lid the word are all gray except Multi-defense that’s blue.
