Old Earth Creationism: Observation
Amy,
I really enjoyed reading your post this week. As a Biology major myself I also have faced this question many times during my time here at Northwestern. I would agree with you that Old Earth Creationism seems the most probable, but like you said there is flaws in all the views and non are perfect. If you would like to explore this issue even further, I would recommend taking the class Science & Theology offered at Northwestern by Dr. Winslow and Dr. Shultz. The class spends a good amount of time digging into the issues of the different views. I loved the class and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Thanks for sharing
Kolton

    (1) This theory of evolution, though often presented as an established fact, is up to the present time only an unverified hypothesis. (2) Science has utterly failed to discover any missing links between man and the supposed animals from which he originated. (3) Furthermore, evolutionists argue that evolutionary trends occur through the processes of mutation. But this view fails to account for the increased complexity of man. (4) Scientists have utterly failed to demonstrate or identify the origin of life (organic) from inorganic substances.…

Charles Darwin’s work in natural selection and the theory of evolution helps us answer the basic question that befuddled all of man, where do we come from? At the turn of the 20th century, there were only considered two major competing theories that would solve that basic human conundrum. Those theories, evolution and creationism; represented conflicting assertions to answer it. Evolution represented science’s opinion of how the universe began, and creationism offered the religious explanation. While Darwin’s theory has stood the test of time and has been proven correct on many fundamental issues such as natural selection, diversification and the general thesis of mutation and change over a long period of time, the theory still contained gaps that were left unreciprocated.…

Historic Creationism correlates with my view as a Christian that the Bible is a poetic and historically accurate accounting of how we as humans came to be in this awe- inspiring world while holding to the scientific probability that the earth is billions of years old. Philosophers, theologians and lay people have forever debated creation, and I for one, believe there is room for more than one opinion. No one will know for sure until the day Jesus returns to shed his divine light on all his believers. Only then will the mystery of creation be…

Experiences, circumstances and values shape the way we think, and give us a foundation for what will become our “worldview.” In order to make a decision on what these beliefs are, we can make judgments based on both faith and scientific knowledge. The origin of Progressive Creationism brings lessons from the Bible into balance with evidence from contemporary science. Progressive Creationism makes room for explanations to scientific findings by interpreting a much longer time frame for creation, but it does not negate an God as being present at every stage, and responsible for the miracles of the creation of life. Influences that have led me to consider this position come from family, church, science classes, and my own personal interpretation…

Where do we come from? This question has disturbed mankind for generations. For a couple thousand years the answer to this question could be found in the Creationist theory. The Bible tells of how 6,000 years ago God created Earth and all its living creatures in seven days. Then in the nineteenth century Charles Darwin published his findings about his theory of evolution in his book On the Origin of Species. This perturbed religious groups and took until the twentieth century to become more widely accepted. The most recent event surrounding this controversy came in a federal court case about the Dover, Pennsylvania school board dilemma on whether to also allow intelligent design to be taught in Biology classrooms. It laid down the platform for various arguments of both the Evolutionists and Intelligent Design theorists. In order to form opinions and solid judgment about these two theories people must form attitudes through various means. Attitudes of intelligent design supporters become clouded and modified by emotion, prior beliefs, ideologies, values, and the mass media, which prove to exhibit good and bad judgment.…

“There are none who are as deaf as those who do not want to hear,” Barry Leventhal once said this quote (Geisler and Turek). There are so many different creation theories that people have been talking about them for centuries, none have been one hundred percent proven but all are debatable. The problem with most professionals who study creation theories is they are very stubborn. Once somebody has a plausible theory in their head they do not listen to any other theories. This quote by Barry Leventhal perfectly describes this characteristic of the professionals mentioned earlier. They are “deaf” because they refused to hear what others had to say. Many documents were written by these “deaf” professionals about their adopted theory; they…

Darwinism; Darwinism is the theory of the evolution of species by natural selection advanced by Charles Darwin. I’m reading the book “Darwin's Doubt “ by author Stephen C. Meyer to get insight on the first discovery of fossils and how the sudden appearance of these unique animal life supports the theory of intelligent design to be the best explanation about the origin of the Cambrian animal and the biological input to produce them . I am also exploring the flaws that are stated in the Darwin Theory and the his theory on how these organisms traits has changed to fit the environment they are living in today, this is known as Natural Selection. The author of Darwin's Doubts Stephen C. Meyer believes that all animal life can be traced back from…

“It is a primordial mystery that has engaged human imagination from the down time: Who are we? Where did we come from? What is our ultimate destiny? The story of creation—whether told through the imagery of ancient myth; the revelations of scared tradition or the theories of modern physics and biology – is the story of what it means to be a human. And it is a story over which religion and science have been fighting for centuries. Since Copernicus overturned the church-sanctioned view of the Earth as the center of the universe and Charles Darwin posited random mutation and natural selection as the real creators of human life, the biblical view that ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth’ has found itself under increasing attack in modern Western thought” (Sheler, 1991, par. 1).…

People want to know how it all began and how did we become the people that we are today. The ones that are asking these types of questions don’t necessarily understand physics, geology or astronomy and really don’t care about all of the debates. They want a truthful simple answer. As a Christian you need to be able to answer the questions on evolution or creation when they are presented to you. This paper is not a once and for all paper that will settle the bottom line but this paper will allow you to open your mind and to further your study into how much we do not know about the power of the…

Some evolutionists advance one of several theories known as "theistic evolution." One variation of this theory states that God is the "Creator" of the universe in that He guided its evolutionary process. This idea, too, fails to measure up to the evidence. If evolution of any form were true, then the fossil record would show millions of transitional forms in every layer of geological stratum. However, no such transitional form has ever been found. This lack of scientific and paleontological evidence lends support to my conclusion that Creation is the only logical model for how the universe came into being. Suffice it to say, I believe what the Bible says about Creation is the absolute truth.…

For decades myths have been told about the development of the world. Each culture has their version of how life began. These myths are centered on creation; how the earth was created, how the sky, land or the sea was created, and how humans and animals were created. These myths give cultures the security of belief. Different cultures believe differently, but these beliefs help certain cultures to continue to face problems or issues, worship, and create happiness and peace.…

    A Young Earth

To me, it is not surprising that scientific evidence support a young earth perspective because the Scripture which I believe is the owner’s manual of the earth proved beyond any reasonable doubt that the age of this earth is in thousands and not millions or billions years as believed by evolutionist. I commend the efforts and all the hard work of the brave team of seven creation scientists from Institute for Creation Research for their success of completing eight- year’s research project known as RATE, or Radioisotopes and the Age of the Earth. According to RATE, for over a hundred years, evolutionists have insisted that the earth is billions of years old, and have arrogantly dismissed any views contrary to the belief. The results and Scientifics evidence of RATE outcome were fascinating; some of which are listed on their web site. Evolution Science evidence supporting the age of the earth changes from time to time as new development or new experiment shows up from time to time. But as for the Bible, the original manuscripts does not change it remains same forever. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” 1…

The universe is expanding – (Edwin Hubble, 1929) Observed a Red Shift when looking at the spectrum light coming from distant galaxies. All light from these galaxies is shifted towards longer wavelengths, i.e.. toward red light. This is the Doppler effect and could only occur if the galaxies were moving away from each other at very high speeds. In fact they are moving away from each other at a rate proportional to the distance between them.…
