The three layers that make up healthy skin: Epidermis, Dermis and Hypodermis. Epidermis is composed of keratinized, stratified squamous epithelium. This layer provides a thick, water proof protective covering over the underlying skins. The dermis layer is composed of primarily of dense, irregular, fibrous connective tissue that is rich in collagen and elastin. The dermis contains blood vessels, nerve ending, and epidermally derived cutaneous oranges such as sweat glands, sebaceous glands and hair follicles. The last layer is Hypodermis this layer is composed primarily of loose dead skin. The fat layer provides cushioning and insulation for underlying organs.…
One of the many roles of skin on the human body is protection of the body from many things such as ultra violet rays, deh ydration, infection and physical injuries.…
Epidermis- the outermost layer which depending on the body location has several layers. The stratum coreum which is thinnest outermost layer consisting of dead keratinized cells protect underlying cells and tissue from dehydration and stop entry of certain chemicals agents. The stratum basale where the cells divide, proliferate and migrate towards the epidermal surface continually ensuring replacement of cells sloughed off during normal shedding. (Crisp, Taylor, Douglas, & Rebeiro, 2013, p. 754)…
This month, Women’s Health magazine presented an ad for the popular Aveeno lotion and body wash. Aveeno’s primary goal is to persuade its audience that Aveeno is the healthy choice and will cause you to have more beautiful skin. To sway the reader to buy the product, the ad pictures Jennifer Aniston, who seems to have tremendously smooth and stunningly polished skin. Jenifer Aniston is flawlessly sitting on a white couch, with a beige background. At the top of ad, there is an Aveeno logo and right below it says “Naturally Beautiful Results”. At the bottom of the ad, a bottle of Aveeno body wash and lotion is pictured right beside the words “Healthy skin equals beautiful skin”. Women’s Health magazine is designed to provide health and beauty…

While reading this article, I learned so many new things about anti-aging creams and make-up. The bonus is the fact that Olay doesn’t test their products on animals, they do it on human skin from biopsies. The equipment to do all the tests and make the creams is very expensive. One machine costs $350,000.000. They use around 94 ‘gene chips’ with samples of skin to do many different series of tests. In the article they used a lot of fancy words that I don’t quite understand, but I’m sure I can assume what they mean. It’s crazy how much science goes into anti-aging formulas. It’s all about the sun damage and the metabolic stuff.…
In this paper I am going to discuss many different topics related to our skin. When discussing the skin. a good place to start is the different layers of the skin. The skin has three different layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous…
The skin consist of two layer tissues, the epidermis on the surface and the dermis underneath. These tissues in the skin of human body are made up of four, the epithelial tissue, muscle tissue, nervous tissue and connective tissue. Epidermis is epithelial tissue, it is the thin outer layer of the skin. Most of them are dead cells and these contains protein called keratin, it waterproofs and protects tissues underneath. In the lower layer, it produces a pigment called melanin which protects the skin cells from damaging effects of ultraviolet from the sun. The dermis, is connective tissue and the thicker portion of the skin and consist of sweat glands, hair follicles, nerves and blood vessels that maintain the health of live cells. Beneath the dermis is the adipose tissue, the subcutaneous layer, a fat storage that insulate the body from…

Damaged skin has short and long-term effects. Rashes, burns, and irritated skin are some of the short-term effects. Long-term effects, such as baggy skin and age spots, cannot be reversed. Premature aging is when the skin “ages” quicker than it’s supposed to. When the skin ages too fast, it looks less attractive. Premature aging takes the shape of wrinkles, dark spots, and leathery skin. These three sub-categories are all considered forms of premature aging. Clearly, premature aging is a direct result of over exposure to UV rays. Wrinkles can be thought of as folds in the skin and are mostly found around the eyes and mouth. Although wrinkles aren’t harmful, they are thought of as what “old people” have. In today’s day and age, society tells us “the younger the better,” and wrinkles make a person appear just the opposite. Additionally, dark spots also are a result from too much sunlight, which causes an increase in melanin in the skin. Dark spots can appear pretty much anywhere, and don’t have a definite cause, but research indicates that UV light is a source. Leathery skin has a worn out look and feel. The skin looks stretched out and…
The skin is the body’s largest organ, creating a barrier between the outside environment and the internal organs. The skin has several important functions. Thickness of the skin will vary depending on the location on the body e.g. the skin on the face is thin, skin on the back is thick. There are two main layers of the skin, the epidermis and the dermis, these two layers of skin lye on a third layer called the subcutis.…
Skin is the largest organ of the body, covering and protecting the entire surface of the body. The total surface area of skin is around 3000 sq inches or roughly around 19,355 sq cm depending on age, height, and body size. The skin, along with its derivatives, nails, hair, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands forms the integumentary system. Besides providing protection to the body the skin has a host of other functions to be performed like regulating body temperature, immune protection, sensations of touch, heat, cold, and pain through the sensory nerve endings, communicating with external openings of numerous other body systems like digestive system, urogenital system, and respiratory system via mucous membranes. The skin is primarily composed of three layers. The skin, which appears to be so thin, is still itself divided into epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer or hypodermis. Each layer has it own function and own importance in maintaining the integrity of skin and thereby the whole body structure.…
