Olam
Since its establishment in 1989, Olam has grown by taking advantage of adjacent opportunities in the agricultural complex and has evolved from a single-product, single-country company in 1989, to a multi-product, multi-national, integrated supply chain manager today. The history and development can be categorised into the following distinct phases: [edit] Founding In 1989, the Kewalram Chanrai Group established Olam Nigeria Plc to set up a non-oil based export operation out of Nigeria to secure hard currency earnings to meet the foreign exchange requirements of the other Group Companies operating in Nigeria. The success of this operation resulted in Olam establishing an independent export operation and sourcing and exporting other agricultural products not related to the Group. The Group's agribusiness was headquartered in London and operated under the name of Chanrai International Limited. The business began with the export of cashews from Nigeria and then expanded into exports of cotton, cocoa and sheanuts from Nigeria. This enabled Olam to develop its origination capabilities and expertise in the sourcing, processing and marketing of agricultural products. During this phase its business was a single-country, multiple-product operation. [edit] Move to Singapore By the start of 1993, Olam recognised patterns and similarities in the sourcing, storing, transporting and marketing of these agricultural products, in the skills and capabilities required to participate in these businesses and the tools and techniques required to manage the particular risks inherent across these product markets. Olam saw it as the opportunity to transfer these skills and competencies across geographic boundaries into other developing countries and across product boundaries to other adjacent products. Between 1993 and 1995, the business grew from a single-country operation into multiple origins, first within West Africa (including Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte

After killing Curley’s wife and his pup, Lennie realizes that he had done something bad and remembers George telling him that if he did anything wrong to go hide in the bushes and wait for him. Once all the men find out what happened to Curley’s wife they go looking for Lennie to kill him, George protects Lennie and tell the men that he headed south, meanwhile George goes to Lennie and tells him that he is going to let nothing happen to him and ends up shooting him in the back of the head, similar to the way Candy’s dog was shot. In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck deciding to have George kill Lennie was valid because it allowed George to stay loyal to Lennie and because Lennie would only continue to hurt people and get in trouble.…

The Union victory in the Civil War in 1865 may have given some 4 million slaves their freedom, but the process of rebuilding the South during the Reconstruction period (1865-1877) introduced a new set of significant challenges. Under the administration of President Andrew Johnson in 1865 and 1866, new southern state legislatures passed restrictive "black codes" to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and other African Americans. Outrage in the North over these codes eroded support for the approach known as Presidential Reconstruction and led to the triumph of the more radical wing of the Republican Party. During Radical Reconstruction, which began in 1867, newly enfranchised blacks gained a voice in government for the first time in American history, winning election to southern state legislatures and even to the U.S. Congress. In less than a decade, however, reactionary forces–including the Ku Klux Klan–would reverse the changes wrought by Radical Reconstruction in a violent backlash that restored white supremacy in the South.…

When writing it is very important to use either logos, pathos, or ethos. Ethos is the appeal to moral character, logos appeals with reason and logic, and pathos appeals to the emotions. It is very important to use all of these when writing but of course, everyone has a favorite. My favorite happens to be Logos. I would prefer to use logos because I like backing myself up with logical ideas that are facts.…

In Ursula Le Guin’s fantasy science fiction story, The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, LeGuin uses vague and vivid imagery to add to the mystifying and perplexing city of Omelas. The author reveals that words are insufficient to describe how perfect the city of Omelas is, and ask the reader to create their own mental image of the people and town. In other words, Omelas is a utopia which is impossible to conceive in modern society due to conflict of interest making it impractical to satisfy everyone’s needs. The author proposes key elements or symbols that allow for Omelas to exist as a paradise.…

As you can see in exhibit # 1, there are substitute for organic food. People can grow in their own backyards, there are so many small farmers market, also people can do hunting and fishing and the biggest substitute is non organic food which is cheaper and easily available anywhere. When the recession hit this industry, sales went down and those people probably switched to non organic food in order to be in budget. The power of buyer is medium to high because there are other sellers who offer similar product at same price and with good customer service. Threat of entrant is low because you need to have a learning curve and also the capital requirement is high in order to start up the business. The power of supplier is low because there are many suppliers and also there is no shortage of supply. Price is little bit higher than non organic food but supply is meeting the demand. Also in this industry backward integration is possible, as whole foods did by opening fish farms which is 60% of their sales. The rivalry is very high because there is a industry growth, and differentiation is not possible. Although they sell exotic products but still their major revenue is from organic meat and vegetables which any one can buy it from supplier and sell it in stores. Also, buyer switching cost is nothing; they can go to a different store next time. In short, this industry is risky but from moderate to high.…
