CHAPTER I

THE OJT PROGRAM

Introduction

On-the-Job training or OJT is one method by which students is given a chance to apply the theories and computations that they have learned from the school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities require their students to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum.

For us students from the College of Computing and Information Technology we define OJT as it provides opportunities to go through the actual experience of a specific job using the real tools, equipment, and documents. In effect, the work place becomes a development venue for us students’ trainee to learn more about our chosen field or career and practice what we have learned from the previous years in the school, and gives us the opportunity to what we’ve learned in our OJT for the coming years.

On-the-Job Training on the other hand is helpful and advantageous for the Company where practicum is conducted because we are added manpower and left significant cost to the employers as an addition to their regular workforce. This is a good chance for the trainees to give their best in their performance, for them to have a chance to be employed in the agency after their practicum.

The On-the-Job Training was conducted from November 11, 2014 to February 26, 2015 for the total of 486 hours at the Quickminds Corporation Cauayan City, Isabela.

A. Importance of the Practicum/ Job Training
1. It is a tool for applying, enriching, and enhancing the acquired knowledge in the school in their particular field of endeavor.
2. A way of transforming student outlook in life through exposure in the performance of actual work that may serve as the stepping-stone for future life.
3. It develops inter personal relationship with other employees within the agency/office.

B. Objectives of the Practicum/ Job Training
1. To let the student feel and experience the actual world of work and a chance to enhance the development of their skills in the computerized environment.
2. To expose the students to the current trends and development in a particular agency or office.
3. To broaden the student’s practical experiences and their outlook to their line of work to have proper prospective and attitudes.

C. Time and Place of the Practicum
The On-The-Job Training was performed from Monday to Saturday, every working days of the week. This training was undertaken from November 11, 2014 to February 26, 2015 covering the required 486 hours at the Quickminds Corporation Cauayan City, Isabela.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary and Conclusion

As a graduating student, it is a requirement to undergo the On-the-Job Training in order to experience the real world of work and will help to improve the skills and to succeed in the future workplace.
This is the summary and report on experiences and activity that I have undergone during my On-the-Job Training at Quickminds Corporation, Cauayan City, Isabela.
This is the most unforgettable and remarkable period/ moment in my life as a student. It is a period when a student has to adjust himself/ herself to the nature of On-the-Job Training. We were always kept busy during those days, working in the office, dealing with many people as well as with different clients, office personnel and many others. So, it was not an easy task. Therefore, I realized that every person differ in so many ways.
This On-The-Job Training helps me a lot in developing my personality as well as boosts my self-confidence in the workplace. It was very fruitful and enjoyable despite those hardships and problems I have encountered. It really enriched my knowledge and skills. It gives me also strength to face those trials that wait after graduation. This will serve as my stepping-stone to fulfill all my goals in my life.
So, if possible, the trainee should stay longer because of the activities that provide situations for development. I am very happy because I had successfully finished my On-the-Job Training at Quickminds Corporation, Cauayan City, Isabela and I really learned a lot. I hope that I could apply what I have learned in the actual performance someday.

Recommendation Based on the On-the-Job Training I underwent, I want to suggest or recommend to all the concerned officials that all who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology course and even other courses should undergo training to develop professional confidence. Students who undergo the On-the-Job Training must have daily list of the activities that they have accomplish, so that they will not be hard up in writing their Narrative Report.
I further recommended that the student must be given On-Campus before they will be sent to off campus training in order for them to prepare themselves for the actual work. And students who are having their On-the-Job Training must behave and act like a real professional. On-the-Job Training is very important because it is one way of widening student’s knowledge through applying the theories that they have learned in school, so that school personnel must give a more convenient time for the students to fully satisfy themselves in their practicum.

Ivancevich (2010) notes that the most widely used method of training is on-the-job training. “It is estimated that more than 60 percent of training occurs on the job” (p. 403). Major employers like General Electric, ExxonMobil, JC Penney, Armstrong Floors, and Verizon utilize this training for their employees because the most efficient and effective way to learn for certain jobs is to actively perform the job. This belief applies across the employment spectrum from entry-level customer service representatives to engineers. This method works for these organizations.…

On the job training, can occur through apprenticeship and mentoring. Two examples of companies offering this type of on the job training are Cardinal Health and Baxter. The similarities in these programs are that they are both designed to provide interested applicants the opportunity to work in an area of their interest as they are learning new skills. As the candidates work through these programs, they are learning new skills and experiences as they are being mentored or becoming an apprentice to a senior level employee. The differences between the two types of on the job training are that apprenticeship involves watching and learning a senior leader, someone you want to be like someday and with mentoring you are being offered help or training as guidance for your position. Apprenticeship provides a more in-depth training and development than…

The cost of on-site training can also be lower because additional costs such as rental charges and transportation are avoided. On-site training may also be more beneficial to an organization because it gives employees the chance to associate what they learn with the workplace. This benefit especially applies in on-the-job training. However, off-site training can be a better option when the training goal is developing new skills and preparing employees for future positions, challenges, or responsibilities. One of the advantages of off-site training is that employees are not interrupted while they are being trained, which helps them focus on the capabilities being taught.…
