Map of Trinidad and Tobago Showing the Location of Oilfields and Gas Fields:

* Oil fields can be found on land in the southern areas of Trinidad as well as off the east and west coast in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Paria respectively.

* All gas fields can be found offshore. The majority can be located in the Atlantic Ocean off the east coast of Trinidad. Other gas fields can be found of the west coast and to the north of Trinidad and to the west of Tobago.

Factors that Influence the Location of Oil and Gas Mining in Trinidad and Tobago
Millions of years ago, organic material accumulated on the ocean floors. Other sediments soon covered these materials. Over time, as a result of the heat and pressure exerted on then, the organic materials turned into crude oil and natural gas.

During the World War II, the fossil fuels played an important role in the battle because all the participants in the war needed combustible; therefore, countries as Venezuela and Norway started to export petroleum to the countries that were in the dispute. Subsequently, all the countries’ economy started to revolve around petroleum, and some of them began to build a monopoly in oil becoming in world power nations. But not all the countries were benefited from that, for example, in the actually Venezuela is suffering one of the biggest economic recessions due to the dependency of petroleum in its economy. According to Arturo Uslar Pietri in his article “Sowing the Oil,” the only profitable use of the petroleum’s incomes is investing them in other technologies, which could be alternative fuels, and other economic sector as tourism and agriculture. Also, Arturo Uslar Pietri claimed that basing the world economy in oil would create a monopoly and enrichments of only a few countries meanwhile others will fall in depression and impoverishment. The development of alternative fuels will create a new and equal market for the world that will increase each one’s economy without depend in one non-renewable source, as the petroleum, and it will create sufficient jobs for those who are working on the petroleum industry and those who are…

    Alberta's Oil Sands

    • 424 Words
    • 2 Pages

The oil sands were formed in a pretty complex way.The oil was formed in source rocks, then continued pressure from overlying rock forced the oil through permeable rock layers until it was trapped in reservoirs of sedimentary rock. As years passed, more then a kilometre of sedimentary rock covered the sediments including the oil. About 50 million years ago, huge amounts of liquid hydrocarbons moved the oil-bearing sediments eastward and upward until they reached large areas of sandstone at Northern Alberta. You would find these oil sands in three major areas in northeast Alberta. The oil sands resource is huge, about the size of Florida!…

    Off Shore Drilling

    • 2358 Words

The crude oil industry has become prominent since mid 19th century. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, the development of drilling methods has brought oil into a drastically larger extent of mass production. Petroleum is one of the important extracted compositions of crude oil in the U.S. Until today, it is globally used mainly as fuels in transportation. Other uses include heating homes, powering industry, and providing raw material for plastic manufacturing. The great importance of oil to the country has led to the exploitation of its resources in the past century. Not only exploiting land resources, the government is also beginning to exploit resources under the sea. Off shore drilling is the method of extracting crude oil from the seabed. It has been a controversial issue in the U.S. of whether or not off shore drilling should be expanded. In this essay, I am comparing and contrasting the reasons why some people are supportive of off shore drilling in the U.S., and why some people are in opposition to it. I will discuss three major aspects upon this issue; the three aspects are national security, economy and environment.…

Studies have shown that petroleum and certain natural gases are found beneath the earth’s surface in certain “reservoir rock formations” or “shale formations” (shales are defined as a certain type of sedimentary rocks) (geology.com, 2010). The gasses trapped beneath the earth can be classified into two categories namely shale gas and conventional gas. The reservoirs of…

In Tanzania the gas was discovery on lately 1970s but the exploration has not begun yet at that time. The gas exploration start on early 2000s and the production was begun on 2004 by generate gas from Songo Songo Island using to produce electricity power and some gas were direct to the manufactures sector industry like cement industry. The current data show that Tanzania have reserve of 30 Trillion cubic feet of gas from its onshore field and offshore field like Kiliwani, Songo Songo, Mnazi Bay, Mkuranga, Zafarani, Jodari,Chaza, Chewa and Pweza. Tanzania is the among of the richest natural resource African countries which have huge reserve of minerals like gold, diamond, copper, uranium, rubies, gypsum, limestone, vanadium, cobalt, iron, phosphate, titanium, nickel, tin ,coal and tanzanite. In Tanzania there are fourteen companies which were engages in exploration of gas those companies are BG Group, Ophir Energy, Statoil Tanzania, ExxonMobil , Petrobras, Heritage, Solo oil, JV,Shell, Orca Exploration Group and Aminex. Gas discovery and exploration in Tanzania may bring huge revenues of foreign currencies which will be using for developments programmes but country like Tanzania must be strategically on exploration, processing, transformation, transportation and exporting the gas resource. The gas exploration may bring a lot of adverse effect to the country like disagreement between the main government and the provinces for example the conflict between Tanzania government and peoples of Mtwara region and also may cause the local currency Tanzania Shillings to appreciate its exchange rate against to the foreign currency, this will make the export to be very expensive compare to import so the agriculture and manufacture sectors will decline hence lead to the Dutch disease. The Dutch disease means that when gas sector may suffocate the other sectors by making them more expensive and less competitive due to the exchange rate fluctuation. This passage will give…
