Of Mice And Men Dreams Essay
Dreams are often a way to find comfort in bad times by dreaming of what career path to take, how many children to have, or who to grow old with. However, dreams are also a way to escape from the harsh reality that a person’s life is not always what it seems. Of Mice and Men explains two characters, Lennie and George, who are traveling farmhands. They both have a dream of owning a house with a few acres, a cow, some pigs, a large vegetable garden, some chickens, and have some rabbits (paraphrased Steinbeck 14). These men have had this dream ever since they began working and traveling together. Lennie was always worried that if he found himself in trouble, George wouldn’t let him tend to the rabbits when they bought the house. In this book, dreams play an important role. The dream that Lennie, George, and later Candy share gives the men something to work toward. These three men have a reason to continue working hard and to keep their jobs because they were trying to save money to buy their own ranch so they could make money off their land and not have to work for someone else and never see a crop they plant.

Someone always has to have a goal in life, whether it be a short term or long term goal. Some goals may be to go to college, some may be to get married. But, some of these goals may be to make a 90 on a Spanish test on Friday or make a 3-point shot at the basketball game Thursday night. Every person has his or her personal goals that they try to achieve to keep them encouraged and inspired and without these goals, dreams to be a basketball player or a teacher would not imprint themselves in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. So, dreams are important because they keep people encouraged and inspired to do something
