The Odyssey Essay Revisions- Body Paragraph 2 In an odyssey the adventurer must gain understanding that leads to a successful denouement. Throughout Homer's poem, Odysseus learns abundantly about creatures such as the Kyklops. In regards to Polyphemus Odysseus states, ¨We felt a tremble in our hearts in dread/ of that deep rumble and mighty man¨ (Homer 9. 278,279). When Odysseus and his crew first arrived with Polyphemus they were not aware of his character or how he would act around them. Odysseus was afraid of Polyphemus mainly because he was ignorant of his nature. After some agonizing time with Polyphemus, Odysseus turned against him, and as he escaped he yelled, ¨Kyklops if ever a mortal man inquire how you were put to shame and blinded,

Another time Odysseus shows his quick wits is the plan he formulates to escape the Cyclops’ home. Odysseus and his men get Polyphemus drunk and waited for him to fall asleep.
