Below shows the probabilities of obtaining at least three of a specific card for both pocket pairs and non pocket pairs. The calculations include anything at least trips (4ofAKind or FullHouse) and exclude community trips. Flushes and Straights are not taken into consideration.

You can see that pocket pair hole cards have more than a 4x better chance of getting trips than non pocket pair hole cards. (C(n,r) choose function)

Pocket pair hole cards: 1 - [C(48,5) / C(50,5)] = 19.184%

Non pocket pair hole cards: 1 - [(C(44,5) + 6*C(44,4) + 9*C(44,3))/ C(50,5)] = 4.675%

The table below shows the trip draw probabilities while holding pocket pair hole cards. Note that the calculations only include trips that complete your pocket pair not for community trips. Flushes and Straights are not taken into consideration.

Many people who had read or heard about Thorp’s book became even more eager to try their luck at the casino. However, many casinos began co-opting Thorps card counting techniques to make painstaking amends in their systems. The Casinos also devised a technique for reshuffling the deck much sooner in order to hinder the successes of the card counters who were looking to tap into Thorp’s meticulous…

It is known all around the world and even though it has been played for hundreds of years, it is still as relevant a casino game as it has ever been. Blackjack is in many ways the game of our time, having emerged from the streets of Spain and France to become a leading genre in the world of online casino gaming. The game has evolved with each generation is has passed through, but for all the bright lights and innovations its core mechanics have stayed relatively the same. Each time a player sits down to play a hand or two, it is still a one-on-one contest between player and dealer. The race to 21 (or bust) is still what decides the outcome, with its basic nature playing a part in why blackjack is still so loved the world over. Many consider the game of blackjack to be basic in nature, as playing a few hands casually is simple enough. The reality is that strategy plays a key…

The first playing cards were found in tenth-century China. Because paper was invented there, it makes sense that playing cards were as well. They consisted of two suits: coins and [bamboo] sticks. As the cards made their way down the Silk Road, two more suits; cups and swords, were added by the Islamic empire. This addition took place around the thirteenth century. Playing cards finally made their way to Europe around 1375. Tarot cards first appeared in northern Italy a few years later. According to many mystics, Romani people traveling through the Silk Road began reading fortunes with picture cards called atouts, which were popular in Persia (Gale). Some believe that these cards disguise the teachings of the Gnostic people, and atouts later became known as tarot. What differentiates the tarot deck from a typical playing card deck is the page and knight replacing the jack. In addition to those 56 cards. 22 allegorical cards known as the major arcana were added. They are known…
