Observing Young Children: Video Analysis
In the video Observing young children, it explained three steps on how to observe young children in the classroom. The three steps that were observed by the teachers were child social development, instructional purposes and assessment purposes. First, child social development interaction is the process by which the child act and react to those around them. For example, in the video it illustrated the case of Joey. Joey has a problem with interacting with the other students in the classroom. In order for the teacher to observe and support Joey she put him in a situation where he had to work with other students on the computer. As Joey gets more comfortable with using the computer with another he then learns to interact more. Secondly, instructional purposes means instructing or teaching the child. …show more content…
The teacher helped and instructed Marisa every day until she was able to hold the pencil. By helping and instructing Marisa she was able to improve her writing ability. Lastly, assessment purposes is when the teacher gather and interpret information about the student learning. For example, in the case of Salvador the teacher observe to see if he was ready to read. In order to decide whether Salvador was ready or not she gathered information on how he looks at books and prints. Therefore, she picked out familiar books to see if he could read and retell the story to her. If he followed through with the benchmark then he will be ready to read. In order for a teacher to observe students she must observe with a specific goal in mind, observe to facilitate children growth and development, modify instructional goals, and observe formal assess
