Observed Narrative: Home At The Childcare Center

Observed Narrative:
This writer had to wait upon arrival at the childcare facility because the office had not been notified that a different person would be picking up the child today. They tried to call mom, but there were no answer, so they had to call dad to verify that it was alright for the child to leave the premises with this writer. Dad apologized, telling the office that he thought mom had made the call. It was not until then that the child and his items were packed and he was ready to leave. After getting the child situated in the car this writer text mom to let her know her child was on the way to her apartment. The apartments have a confusing labeling system. Remembering that the childcare center had given this writer an envelope to give to mom, it was pulled out to check the address. The envelope was addressed to 1429 so asking the individuals who previously helped if they knew where we could find this number. They were not familiar, but tried to help and we never found it. This writer thanked them and tried to call mom again, but no answer. After walking around with arms filled with a child’s car seat, laptop, and the child’s backpack this writer was getting exhausted and so was the child. Returning to the car this writer and child sat for a moment, then decided to call one last time if no answer this writer will call the father to come pick him up and count this as a cancellation. A half-hour passed from the time that mom should have been expecting to see her son and she has not called this writer to see if her child is safe. One last call to mom and she answered. This writer explained to mom that she and the child have been calling her for directions to the apartment. Mom comes out of the first door that we knocked on apartment 1424. This writer asked her how long does it take to throw away the trash there have been numerous attempts made to call her in the last thirty minutes. This writer then asked her if she forgot her son was coming and she said she had not forgotten. This writer asked her was she at least worried where her son was in this last thirty minutes. Mom did not respond, she appeared upset that this writer inquired about the situation. After enter into the home the child told mom that he was thirsty so she gave him water to drink. The child said he wanted to watch television grabbed the remote and turned it on. He then asked mom if he could watch veggie tales. While he was watching cartoons mom said it was time for dinner. She went into the kitchen and the microwave was turned on. Mom came into the room with a small box from Popeye’s chicken. In the box there was bar-be-que wings, nacho’s and spinach dip.The child only wanted the chips, but mom encouraged him to take a few bites of the chicken. The child said he wanted to watch the cartoon Cars, so mom changed the channel for him and as he was watching television mom continued to feed him pieces of chicken and he did eat . Mom asked him how many wheels are on a car
