GOT MILK?

KAPLAN UNIVERSITY

Just because its’ called ‘Calcium’ Silicate doesn’t mean the chemical necessarily is a product for milk. Actually, Calcium Silicate is a chemical which has been found in a numerous amount of household products. Calcium Silicate or often referred to as the chemical compound Ca2SiO4. You may have heard of the synonyms for this before, such as silicic acid, calcium salt, calcium hydro silicate, and calcium met silicate. Or perhaps you’ve seen it used as an anti-caking agent in food preparation or as an antacid. This product can be described as a white or cream-colored, free-flowing powder.(cdc.gov) The exposure can be caused from inhalation, skin and/or eye contact. If there were to be any symptoms caused from it, it would begin with an irritation of the eyes, skin and upper respiratory system. The molar mass of Ca2Si04 equals 172.2391 g/mol. This means that Silicon (Si) which has an atomic mass of 28.055 has 1 atom, equaling 16.306% mass percent. Calcium (Ca) has 40.078 atomic mass, which means there is 2 atoms at a 46.538% mass. Oxygen (O) has 15.99994 atomic mass, which means there are 4 atoms at 37.156% mass. In chemistry, this formula weight is a quantity computed from multiplying the atomic weight of units by each element in the chemical formula by the number of atoms which are present in the formula. Finding molar mass starts with units of grams per mole. The formula weight is simply the weight in atomic mass units of all the atoms in the given formula. There are many household products which contain this ingredient are typically in the category of home maintenance or personal care, that you may not even realize. Cover Girl cosmetics contains many products with this chemical. The line consists of powder, blush, matte, and other complexion products to control oils. (www.hhs.gov) It can also be in use for pesticide control with preventing ants and lawn & garden insect

Americans are heavier than ever before and, according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) approximately 127 million adults in the U.S. are overweight, 60 million adults are obese, and 9 million adults are morbidly obese. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. It can be caused by many reasons. One obvious reason is the rise in fast food consumption that companies are so adamant on pushing the public to buy, especially children. With fast food chains creating more and more ways to entice the American public to eat their food, it is becoming harder and harder to stay in shape these days. The fast life of America is quickly taking its toll on the public with the silent enemy called obesity creeping up at an alarming rate. In fact, the rate of it overtaking our lives is so fast; the Surgeon General has called it an "epidemic". Now, the real question is- are fast food restaurants really the culprits at work here? In this essay I intend to compare two very different takes on fast food companies and their ways of making people fat as well as my stand on the matter.…

The results of Breton’s study is shown in Figure 2. The graph shows a negative correlation between the two factors, enclosure size and total distance paced. This means that the tigers that lived in smaller spaces paced more than the tigers living in larger spaces. Tigers held in zoos are unable to move around as if they were in their natural living environment. This creates frustration for the tigers and leads to aggression. The small-enclosed living spaces in zoos lead tigers to suffer psychological disorders similar to those of humans. Tigers suffer from anxiety and depression due to the small living spaces. These effects to the tigers’ psychological welfare create a long-term effect to their growth and development. According to Dr. Meredith…

Toothpaste usually contains around 20% of calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate acts an abrasive in toothpaste and helps to remove dental plague as well as food remains stuck in between the teeth. The rationale of conducting this experiment of finding out the amount of calcium carbonate in toothpaste is to make sure that the percentage of calcium carbonate is around 20%. If the percentage is more than 20%, the enamel protecting our teeth will wear off and become thinner resulting in decolouration and teeth sensitivity.…

In the past, overweight people were believed to be the healthiest, more likely to have resistance to diseases and infections (Ebbeling et al, 2002). Some decades ago, the increase in non-communicable diseases associated with overweight and obesity has arguably become a public health problem in developed countries and more recently in under developed countries; with 8 million overweight people living in developed countries and 53 million living in developing countries (WHO, 2012). This essay will try to discuss overweight and obesity in South Africa, the public health challenges and how the country is tackling the issue.…
