Nyoongar Seasons
In south west Australia, the nyoongar calendar has six different seasons each year. These seasons in order are Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba, Kambarang. Each of these seasons represents (and explains) the seasonal changes we see every year. These “changes” revolve around flowering of plants, hibernation of reptiles and the moulting of swans, all determining what season it is, and when the seasons are changing.
The Nyoongar seasons can change length, being longer or shorter, and are indicated by the things happening and changing around us, rather than the usually dates calendar we are used to in our modern day
