1 understand working relationships in health and social care
1.1Explain how a working relationship is different to a personal relationship
A personal relationship is one where your personal life and extra curricular activities and social life are involved.
A work relationship is another way of describing a relationship with your co-worker. You spend time together at work, you work well together, but you have little or no contact outside of work. It's strictly professional.
Relationships are probably the most involved and emotionally charged area of our lives. From the moment we are born we form relationships, each one requiring something different from us and giving us something different in return.
The difference between a working relationship and personal relationship is that a working relationship is where you are placed with other people and work as part of team where each individual is working next professional codes of conduct, towards the attainment of mutual aims and objectives. By working to a set of rules and procedures for which you're paid, you are accountable and responsible for any mistakes and errors you make. Time restrictions and boundaries apply and you do not necessarily have to like the people you work with but need to keep personal opinions and feelings to yourself. Mutual deference and understanding is a key factor in developing a good working relationship.
A personal relationship is a relationship formed through choice, with someone who you like, who you may share welfares and feelings with. In a personal relationship there are no sets of rules and procedures to follow and you are able to voice your personal feelings, thoughts and feelings. A personal relationship is therefore formed simply because you like that person and choose to have that relationship with them whether it is a family relationship, friendship or sexual relationship
1.2Describe different working relationship in health and social care setting
In the health and social care setting there are many different working relationships. These relationships will include: colleagues, manager, other professionals such as doctors/district nurse, service users and their family and friends. For each you grow a different type of working relationship and some will be more formal than others e.g. You would not address a visiting doctor in the same manner as you would a service user and you would not address your manager in the same way as you would a colleague although you must ensure that you maintain a professional manner.
2 Be able to work in way that are agreed with the employer
2.1Describe why it is important to adhere to the agreed scope of the job role
When you appointed for the position, you have been agreed with the job description as part of a contract with the employer. so it is your legal responsibility to adhere in your defined role. it is your duty to understand the expectations of your job as well as understand professional boundaries. in order to be successful in your job , it is essential to be a respectful and accountable.
2.2Access full and up to date details of agreed ways of working
It is vital for you to know where the most up to date written copies of policies, procedures, guidelines and agreed ways of working are kept that transmit to your role. There may also be procedures for your exact work locations. It is useful if your employers’ policies and procedures are published on their website as you will be able to access the most up to date copies at any time. Policies and procedures are often made obtainable for anyone to read as public documents because the Freedom of Information Act allows anyone to ask for copies.
2.3.Implementing agreed ways of working
Agreed ways of working refers to the care plan. To device agreed ways of working you follow the care plan. Duty of care is the responsibility you have to application a level of care towards an individual, as is rational in all the circumstances, to avoid injury to that individual or his/her property. A dilemma can occur when an individual makes a risky choice. They have a right to do this and you must deference and support their choices but you also have a duty to keep them safe.
3 Be able to work in partnership with others
3.1Explain why it is important to work in partnership with others it is important to work with others as we have a common objective to shield from harm such as illness abuse or injury to ensure we are all involved in decision making to add to the growth and development of the whole team using your skills to the best of your skill, train new staff, attend training, know your own role and responsibility’s , seek advice from your manager if you had issues in your working relationships,seek advice from your manager if you were unable to resolve the conflict yourself.
3.2Demonstrate ways of working that can help improve partnership work
Effective partnership working is built upon a clear understanding of the different roles each person or organisation has in supporting the service user. Increasing clarity and agreement about roles and responsibilities improves understanding, and leads to mutually supportive relationships. Clear remits, lines of communication and accountability characterise successful approaches to partnership working. By working in partnership with professional colleagues, it can help to overcome perceived boundaries between services and organisations, developing ways of working that will be of benefit the service user. To work as an effective and productive partnership everyone involved needs to be, feel and work as part of the same team with the same goals and expectations. To improve a partnership it is important that everyone knows those goals, how they will be reached and what is expected of them. - reporting any changes to the service users care needs either at handover or via the care plan. - Calling the doctor because the service user feels unwell
-Advising the service users family that they need new items of clothing
3.3 and 3.4Identify skills and approaches needed for resolving conflict and
Demonstrate how and when to access support and advice about;
As a carer, situations will arise where there will be a conflict with either work colleagues or service users or others you have contact with in the course of your practice. Because working as part of a team involves working with others it brings together a diversity of resources, knowledge and ideas. However, diversity can also produces conflict. Conflict arises from differences. When individuals come together in work teams their differences in terms of power, values and attitudes, and social factors all contribute to the creation of conflict. Conflict can arise from numerous sources one of which can be communication barriers include poor listening skills; insufficient sharing of information; differences in interpretation and perception; and nonverbal cues being ignored or missed, all of which can create and lead to misunderstandings. To resolve conflicts you should try to choose a quite area where you can discuss the issues raised, and mediate between those who have the conflict. You should then
- Stay focused and concentrate on what the conflict is about - Remain calm - Listen carefully - Remain impartial and try to see all points of view - Respond to criticism with empathy - Ascertain the desired outcome - Look for compromise - Ask other for help if needed
