1. To get a feel for Peter Elbow’s “believing game,” write a summary of some belief that you strongly disagree with. Then write a summary of the position that you actually hold on this topic.
Zinczenenko arguments says that fast food companies are making people fat. Fast food industry is vulnerable. They are marketing product with proven health hazards and no warning labels. It will results in to make children more sick, obese and angry. His arguments are strong enough to convince the situation according to his thought. Opinions may differ as to how persuasive these arguments are, but his statistics about diabetes suggest a definite health risk. These arguments also support his larger point that lawsuits against such companies are justified. I believe that Zinczenenko’s argument about the food companies is right because a lot of companies will not show accurate labels on food. For example, when we see the calories on any sugar free soda or food packages, it says that 0% or 0 gram sugar which is not right in real. They show that 0 amount for just a sip of soda or a bite of food but when they make such product they do use sugar to make it which is not clearly mentioned on labels. That’s why even though a diabetic person will drink sugar free soda, he will still get sugar level in blood. This is my personal experience which makes me think about Zinczenko’s argument about false labels.
2. Write two different summaries of David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame the Eater”. Write the first one for an essay arguing that, contrary to what Zinczenko claims, there are inexpensive and convenient alternatives to fast food restaurants. Write the second for an essay that question whether being overweight is a genuine medical problem rather than a problem of cultural stereotypes.

    Though Zinczenko and Balko take different approaches on who should be blamed for obesity, they are actually in agreement that there is definitely a personal responsibility associated with obesity. Balko argues that it’s the individual’s responsibility to make healthy choices, while Zinczenko argues parents don’t have enough time to pick up healthy food for themselves nor for their children’s. Thereby selecting fast food is the easy way out. Balko is absolutely right it is an individual responsibility for a healthier choice of food. In my opinion I believe that people use “not enough time” as an excuse to eat out. Eating healthy is as easy as 1,2,3 thought some people may not be able to afford a salad from a fancy restaurant or low fat meals they can definitely make themselves a sandwich and pack some fruits and take it as a lunch meal for themselves and their children’s. Preparing a sandwich should only take a minute or two rather then driving up and down the block looking for “food” which in reality they looking for Mac Donald or Burger King instead of wasting the money on fast food restaurant people should consider using that money and buying a loaf of bread, salad, and cracker for there next day meal. If people would do this on a daily basic fast food restaurant wouldn’t exists anymore.…

    What is the value of freedom? Not the effort of achieving freedom but the extent of its value. Should an individual control every aspect of their life or should they not? This is an important question when it comes to the fast food industry. Fast food annual revenue is an outstanding 170 billion dollars per year: diabetes has never been higher and yet we are still pondering on a problem that has not been resolved.     Zinczenko argues that most teenagers who live a lifestyle based on a fast food diet might be destined for a lifetime obesity. For Example, David Zinczenko states in his article” Don’t Blame the Eater”, that “Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder-only about 5 percent of children cases were obesity related, or type 2, diabetes.     David Zinczenko is the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health magazine and the author of numerous best-selling books. Zinczenko is a man known for his work; his work and credibility shines bright because he has contributed op-ed essays to the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. He has also appeared on Oprah, Ellen, 20/20, and Good Morning America. The fact that he is so accomplished in the area of eating healthy shows just how credible he is when it comes to discussing fast food vs. the eater. Zinczenko believes that the fast food industry is partly at fault for the growing rate of obesity. Although Zinczenko’s background and accomplishments gives us the evidence we need to know in order to trust his judgments, his emotional way of getting his points across make a difference as well. In the beginning of the essay, Zinczenko tells us about himself and how he grew up with troubled parents who weren’t together, and with very little options of what to eat for lunch and dinner every day. He explains that his options were mainly fast food, which caused him to be an overweight teenager. In other words, he uses his story of himself as a teenager growing up with family problems to draw people in and get them to sympathize with the overweight teenagers and get them to see that it is not all their fault and that it is, in fact, partly the fast food industry’s fault. One of his final arguments is that without warning labels on fast food industry products, we will see more sick, obese children and more angry parents.…
