If the patients had any questions the nurses would answer them to the best of their knowledge or get a doctor to come and speak to the patient individually to settle the confusion. Wilson, 2009 said that there is an issue with Dr /Patient relationships. Wilson believes doctors don’t spend enough time empathising with their patients. However the doctor who was looking after Jean came round the ward twice a week, and could be contacted if needed, to see her. The doctor was always willing to do more than expected, for other patients on my ward they would also come to see the family if requested, to explain further plans for the care and treatment plans.…

Colonial Care Center is a local Long beach Nursing Home Located on the corner of Cherry and 5th street. This facility is around the corner from my house, so I was able to visit the home multiple times to get a better understanding of how the residents are living. If I had to rate the residents daily life from my three visits, I would give this home a 6 out of 10. Some of the residents seem to enjoy their interactions with the staff, while others looked miserable. The attire of the patients was all over the board. Some were dressed in pajamas and others were dressed in pants and shorts as if they were ready to go on a nice walk. The staff appeared to have a good relationship with the residents that were willing to interact with them. They knew…

Americans are living longer than ever before thanks to advancements in medical technology, diet, and treatments. For many, this means entering assisted care as they age. Some may have disabilities that prevent from living on their own. Often times, the family that would care for them at a healthier time in their life can not provide the constant medical assistance needed. Many have family members that entrust a professional organization such a nursing home to provide this care. Most nursing homes are compassionate and responsible places that properly look after their patients. However, there are some that fail to provide the care needed and neglect the conditions of the patients, and even expose them to harm and mistreatment. Before taking a loved one to reside in a nursing home, check with the National Center on Elder Abuse for all the facts. If your loved one is complaining about abuse or neglect or you see signs that they are being abused or denied the proper treatment then contact an attorney who specializes in elder abuse claims to discuss the…

Two months ago I was asked to attend a Family Forum meeting at my current place of work. These provide an opportunity for friends/relatives to come together with several staff members (including a manager) every month to discuss any developments within the service, or any other business affecting them and their family members. Once everything on the agenda was covered, I took my cue to highlight the topic of activities within the Nursing Home. This was a good opportunity to ask family members if they had any new requests for activities for their relative living within the Nursing Home. Almost instantly the manager chairing the meeting replied that she thought there was more than enough being done in…
In my role as a specialist nurse I am involved with caring for patients within a community setting and providing a holistic assessment of their needs. This can involve assessing patients as a result of a supported discharge from secondary care or referral from General Practitioners (GP’s) for issues related primarily to their cardiac condition, their general overall health and any other health related issues. These assessments can take place within the patient’s home or within a clinic setting. These assessments are quite commonly carried out with very little prior knowledge regarding the patient and this is currently an area under review. For the purpose of this case study I will look at a lady who attended a clinic session within a GP’s practice.…
