The nuclear energy

While demand for energy continues to rise due the continuous need of energy in developing and developed countries and the fast decrease of natural non renewable sources of energy such as oil and gas, many countries face serious challenges regarding the security of their energy supply. As Juan Pablo Perez Alfonzo said “the oil is the evil’s excrement” therefore we can legitimately wonder what is the nuclear energy. For couples decade nuclear energy has been wished-for by some people to be a solution among others in the meantime some other are against this source of energy and fear it. Through this report, I will try to understand where does the nuclear energy come from and is it a non limited resources ? In the second part, I will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the nuclear energy then in a third part we will try to understand why in the US, Nuclear energy is such major issue..

What is a nuclear energy?
At the heart of the reactor of a nuclear reaction is fission: a neutron moves and strikes an atom of uranium, and then the nucleus absorbs the neutron. The core becomes so unstable that it bursts. It is divided into two parts and releases energy. Nuclear fission is not possible with any element. It uses uranium as its atoms are large nuclei unstable easy to divide. This reaction causes a release of energy as heat, which will convert water into steam generator. The steam will turn turbines that will create an electric current.
Another reaction is the fusion: A nuclei of hydrogen and helium fuse. These two nuclei are the source of energy from the sun and stars, then their fusion results in a tremendous amount of energy. The

    Recently, a client of mine bought real estate near Donald C. Cook Nuclear Generating Station, which is in Bridgman Michigan. Although, the property is six miles north of the nuclear power plant, the buyer decided that it was not an issue and bought the place. The property sits in a beautiful wooded area overlooking Lake Michigan with a cozy ranch, mile long driveway, and old hardwood trees. One would never notice there is a nuclear power plant down the street when sitting by the pond skipping stones across a quiet serene boutique farm and vineyard. This property also sits in Cook 's emergency zone located on an evacuation map on their website. Taking a look at the brochure and website of Cook 's nuclear station, one would be amazed to see all the precautionary steps taken to protect the nuclear reactor that is enclosed in a 3 ½ ft thick concrete wall reinforced with three layers of steel rebar in a reactor house that is heavily guarded by security personal with guns www.cookinfo.com). The brochure even includes an explanation of the not so foreseeable disaster if a plane crashed into the reactor house and how there is “very few combustible material to fuel a fire” (www.cookinfo.com).     The most commonly used nuclear reaction for power generation is nuclear fission. Nuclear fission is the splitting of an atom's nucleus into parts (lighter nuclei that are different from the parent and neutrons) by capturing a neutron. Nuclear fission produces heat (also called an exothermic reaction), because if you add all the masses together of the products of reaction you do not get the starting mass. That loss of mass is the heat and electromagnetic radiation produced during fission, and it produces large amounts of energy that can be utilized for power. Fission produces neutrons which can then be captured by other atoms to continue the reaction (chain reaction) with more neutrons being produce at each step. When a reaction reaches critical mass, the reaction becomes self sustaining. If too many neutrons are generated, the reaction can get out of control and an explosion can occur. To prevent this from occurring, control rods that absorb the extra neutrons are interspersed with the fuel rods. Uranium-235 is the most commonly used fuel for fission.
