The way we send day to day correspondence, how we train new sailors, and how we troubleshoot broken equipment are a few examples of some things that have become easier due to these advances. Only 35 to 40 years ago, email didn’t really exist the way it does today, and phone infrastructure wasn’t as good on our ships as it is today. Before the modern conventions of presentation software, all of the material was hand written up on a chalk board and all of the notes needed to be created by the student. Business communication forms are continually evolving into many different forms. There was a time when communications were done by simpler means such as telephone, mail or by courier. That is not because that was the way businesses chose to communicate, but because it was the only way to. Technology had not advanced to accommodate busy lifestyles, and business deals that can fall apart in a matter of seconds simply because they could not speak to someone that was far away right at that very moment. Businesses definitely use the resources available to communicate, because they ensure that their employees have email, IM and a cellular phone so they can have open communication with them at all times. With my employer it is often difficult to get in touch with me by telephone, so we have an Instant Message system so than I can be connected to at any time when I am needed. Email is also an essential form of communication, and the emails come in a matter of seconds from all over the world. That keeps everyone tapped into one another by a simple click of a button, and the ease of speaking to someone for some last minute input into a project can take place without the inconvenience of having to call that person on the phone. Even though my job relies on the telephone I believe that it is slowly becoming obsolete, and electronic messages from text, IM or email are the improved yet impersonal way of communication.…

Technology has paved the way to a new and exciting life. Since technology has become such a major part of our modern day lives, there is much speculation on how fast we are actually accruing new technologies. According to Moore 's Law, we double our technology every two years. This number has actually been updated to 18 months recently, and we can only expect that new to become smaller and smaller. (Greene, para. 1-6, 2011) In other words, we are learning more than ever! Out with the old, and in with the new. In many cases, technology moving forward makes for 'smaller ' phones and computers, features go up, and our technological tools in the world become more involved. This is especially true in the world of business. Technology helps businesses to better reach their customers, organize records, and to establish an online presence. (Swanson, para. 5-11, 2012)…

Examining this new movement in communicating with technology, I consider it as an altered method of communication versus traditional approaches. However, there are some critics that beg to differ the idea about technology and communication. To some, it is seen as a pathway to the degradation of spoken language as we know it, but I believe it has no impact on spoken language, but an innovative way to communicate without using your vocal chords.…
