CHECK LIST
1. Is an external wall within 900mm of an allotment boundary to another property, 1.8m to another building that isn’t a class 10 building, or 3m from a brush fence?
2. If so, these walls must have a non-combustible roof lining and eve lining.
3.Windows in these walls must be non-operable fire windows (exceptions for bathroom toilet or laundry windows with an area smaller than 1.2m2
4.Doors must be self closing and solid core not less than 35mm

In a class 1a building If there are no bedrooms they can be situated anywhere within the floor

25. In a class 1b building a smoke alarm must be installed in every bedroom
26. Also installed in every corridor or hallway associated with a bedroom or if there is no corridor or hallway an area between the bedrooms and the remainder of the house.
27. On every other story there must be a smoke alarm
28. In a class 1b building a lighting system must be installed to assist evacuation of occupants in the event of a fire.
29. Be activated by a smoke alarm
30. Consist of a light incorporated within the smoke alarm
31. The lighting is to be located on the corridor hallway or an area that is serviced by a smoke alarm
32. Open fireplace construction. – Front hearth Must be made out of stone, concrete, masonry or similar
33. Hearth must extend 300mm or more beyond the front of the fireplace and not less than 150mm beyond each side of that opening
34. Base of hearth must be made of stone concrete masonry or similar and any combustible floor or framing members must not be 150mm from its upper
