I have chosen a movie called “Now You See Me” for the analysis assignment. I have picked this particular movie because I really liked it. It had kept me guessing throughout the entire movie. I enjoy watching movies that will keep you guessing until the end just like this particular one.
“Now You See Me” is the movie that I have selected. The primary stars are: Daniel Atlas played by Jesse Eisenberg, Merritt McKinney played by Woody Harrelson, Jack Wilder played by Dave Franco, Thaddeus Bradley played by Morgan Freeman, Henley Reeves played by Isla Fisher, and Dylan Rhodes played by Mark Ruffalo (Full Cast & Crew, 2014). The movie came out in May 31, 2013 and was rated as PG-13. “Now You See Me” revolve around “four magicians each answer a mysterious summons to an obscure address with secrets inside. A year later, they are the Four Horsemen, big time stage illusionists who climax their sold out Las Vegas show with a bank apparently robbed for real. This puts agents Dylan Rhodes of the FBI and Alma Dray of Interpol on the case to find out how they did it. However, this mystery proves difficult to solve even with the insights of the professional illusion exposer, Thaddeus Bradley. What follows is a bizarre investigation where nothing is what it seems with illusions, dark secrets and hidden agendas galore as all involved are reminded of a great truth in this puzzle: the closer you look, the less you see” (Chisholm, 2013).
The first theory/concept that I have decided to explore is Selective Perception. In chapter 2 page 45, Selective Perception­­­: distortion that arises from paying attention only to what we expect to see or hear and from ignoring what we don’t expect (Verderber, 2004). In scene 1:10-1:30, the very beginning of the movie when Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) is a street performer doing card tricks in front of a big audience, the apparently typical card
