SOLDIER'S HOME by Ernest Hemingway Krebs went to the war from a Methodist college in Kansas. There is a picture which shows him among his fraternity brothers, all of them wearing exactly the same height and style collar. He enlisted in the Marines in 1917 and did not return to the United States until the second division returned from the Rhine in the summer of 1919. There is a picture which shows him on the Rhone with two German girls and another corporal. Krebs and the corporal look too big for their uniforms. The German girls are not beautiful. The Rhine does not show in the picture. By the time Krebs returned to his home town in Oklahoma the greeting of heroes was over. He came back much too late. The men from the town who had been drafted had all been welcomed elaborately on their return. There had been a great deal of hysteria. Now the reaction had set in. People seemed to think it was rather ridiculous for Krebs to be getting back so late, years after the war was over. At first Krebs, who had been at Belleau Wood, Soissons, the Champagne, St. Mihiel and in the Argonne did not want to talk about the war at all. Later he felt the need to talk but no one wanted to hear about it. His town had heard too many atrocity stories to be thrilled by actualities. Krebs found that to be listened to at all he had to lie and after he had done this twice he, too, had a reaction against the war and against talking about it. A distaste for everything that had happened to him in the war set in because of the lies he had told. All of the times that had been able to make him feel cool and clear inside himself when he thought of them; the times so long back when he had done the one thing, the only thing for a man to do, easily and naturally, when he might have done something else, now lost their cool, valuable quality and then were lost themselves. His lies were quite unimportant lies and consisted in attributing to himself things other men had seen, done or heard of, and stating…

Boorstin also says that, “Dissent is the great problem of America today.” That reminded me of the book that we read over the summer, The Lord of the Flies. Jack and Ralph show dissent by nearly killing each other, never finding a common ground on how to run the island, and they can never just talk to one another. There always has to be something that’s said through another character, and soon gets back to the other character. They’re arguing never got them anywhere, and that’s why that example is an example of dissent.…

From my early childhood, all the way until now and I am sure to the future and beyond I have been fascinated by music. I have loved to listening to, playing, singing, and writing music as well. I can vividly remember when I was very young in our family room we had a stereo and my family and I would dance and play along to music. I specifically remember The Beatles and The Eagles. I had a small plastic snare drum that I use to use until sadly I stepped on it. Both of my Uncles played music and were in a band themselves. My Uncle Ed was a drummer and my Uncle Ronnie was a guitarist and a singer. I remember going to concerts for their band a t a young age as well.…

School of Rock. Seeing those words on my calendar made me dread the weeks to come. My parents had signed me up for an activity, once again, without asking my opinion first. My friends would be going, but that didn’t make it sound better. I would be put in a band with people I didn't know. I’d always left being outgoing and meeting new people for my friends to take care of, but this week it seemed to be on my to-do list.…

My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…

Ring Ring, we herd the phone and my mom answered, I could not hear what they were talking about but it just so happened to one of they most important phone calls of my life. It was December 10, 2014 that we got the phone call from a band asking me if I was interested in playing with there band at a live concert, first I though I was dreaming and then I realized I was'nt, I could not believe that I had the opportunity to play in a band at a concert at age 12. I had five days to make up my mind of weather or not to play on stage with this bad. I started practicing the songs I was going to perform and they were pretty easy for me but I just had this gut feeling like I was not going to do well. The next day I woke up it was coming so fast, and all I was focused on at the time was practice, practice, practice. This would be a once in a lifetime chance, a decision that would decide my future as a musician, it would decide respect, how people…

This essay is regarding how a ideal father looks like for me. I surely know is that my father is ideal for me. The way he speak, the way he dress, the way he moves, the way he behave. Lets begin to relate the way my father looks like. At first perspective i see that his clothes are smart and ritualistic. I notice that he dresses all kind of clothes. All clothes are dissimilar such as soft, formal, informal, sportive, inexpensive, and expensive clothes. My father is short and thin. He constantly has his hair cut short. In different words my dad image is simply unique. Going to his image, i could say that the way he react and walk is an prime of his image. For example he moves to walk very quickly, like to walk a lot to everywhere. This may be the reason about his is that thin. Speak about the way he eats, he has a certain way to chews it without noise. Everytime i eat with him, i could enjoy my food as he does. He loves to eat , when he eat he liable not to speak. Nonetheless, when he speaks for story, he shows his expression because he always regard for something. He always smile when he is happy and always somber when he is worried. His emotion are something that makes even more interesting to listen to him. I could say that when i listen to him i can learn something. I always go to to him when i want to have an truthful opinion. He’ll give me his opinion from the bottom of his heart. In different hand when he needs to tell me something, he waits the ideal time to tell me, at somewhere where is calm and relaxed. But if is something bad he always tries to give me his guidance. I can feel the support that can makes me fell confident and save. My father is the kind of person that does not show his emotions a lot. But that i could say that he can be though. To agree, some people may think that this essay is a little bit too tacky. I don’t care because there was not someone else that i desire to related like this. I have the glorious…

Highlife music has always been in the Ghanaian scenes, taking different names and different forms. The name “Highlife”, which was coined in the 1920s has already become a household name prior to the Second World War. During the world war, the British employed local popular music such as the Konkoma highlife marching songs in recruiting the Black servicemen and increasing their morale for war. Ghanaian dance orchestra musicians who are proficient in the reading of music, and their counterparts – the foreign soldiers in Ghana who loved jazz and swing – entertained the troops through their bands, the Black and White Spots and the Tempos Swing Bands.…
