In first grade, I went to Brown Elementary. At recess I would always go on the bubble. The bubble was a dome shaped climbing structure with hexagons to make up the bubble. The bubble had been there for many years before, so the gray is hardly not there anymore it’s more of a little gray and a lot of the rusty red color. I would always climb on the bubble at recess.…

Influential people say things that make you think and to influence you to do better. Muhammad Ali inspired me to do better by saying, “I am the greatest. I said that even before I knew I was.” Clearly, he was trying to tell you not to get in the mindset of saying I am the worst, I can’t do this, or I'm going to fail. Inky Johnson inspired me to do better every day by saying, “The only person you try to do better than is the person you were yesterday.” Obviously, Ink Johnson is trying to tell you to do better no matter what even if you were amazing the day before. Carrie Fisher inspires me to try to do some funny or embarrassing things by saying,”If my life wasn’t funny it would just be true, and that is unacceptable.” Apparently, Carrie Fisher…

Are acts of civil disobedience ever appropriate? According to American history, acts of disobedience in the face of tyranny are not only appropriate but expected. The very fabric of this nation was shaped by acts of civil disobedience and rebellion. Human morality is not always defined by governmental regulations and when those regulations are in direct defiance of morality, it is the people’s obligation to stand with their beliefs and change the government.…

Have you ever wondered about those few in your class who just do everything on there own, not caring what everyone else thinks about it? Those who oppose the cliques and those who think the "popular" kids are just a group of followers. If you actually get the time to look at then and get to know them you will find out that they are not just the group of "weirdoes", they live the romantic way of life, they are called the non conformists. Sounds kind of important huh? Well that is just what these kids strive not to be. They do not want to be the big time lawyers and businessmen, they do not want to be voted "best dressed" or "most popular". They just want to be themselves and be happy. You may ask yourself, well isn't that what we all want? If you think about it though, the majority of us also what to be wealthy and pretty and overall, just accepted. Well if you really were a non-conformist you wouldn't care about any of…

The audience I would try to reach in regards to an alternate version of my persuasive essay would be the governments of the world that have taken advantage of America’s passivity in the world, such as China and Iran. By having them as my audience, it would send a message that America is not going to be a footstool anymore, and that whomever tries to step on or over will be dealt with accordingly. By seeing my work, maybe it would prevent them from taking specific courses of action because they too believe Donald Trump will bring peace through strength. While it could have the opposite effect on the intended audience in its persuasiveness, it would nonetheless get them out of their comfort zone and possibly rattled. I just hope that it does not go in the opposite direction intended, and create a situation where a country bans my alternate version, saber rattles America itself, or boycotts American products or people. They would find my work in multiple mediums, from underground newspapers, internet ads, and at film festivals.…

Civil disobedience is the act of openly breaking the law or refusing to comply with government demands then willingly accepting punishment for the action. In Henry David Thoreau's case, spending a night in jail was the result of his civil disobedience when he refused to pay poll-tax. Like Thoreau, Kim Davis was jailed because of her refusal to follow a rule. Since Kim Davis shared a similar experience with Thoreau and that is why I think she would best fit Thoreau's definition of civil disobedience.…

According to Henry David Thoreau’s Resistance To Civil Government, where the term “civil disobedience” was popularized, it is “the act of willful resistance, achieved by not obeying laws considered to be hypocritical,” (Grade Saver). Throughout United States history, civil disobedience has been one of the most effective ways for the people to achieve desired results in the face of disagreement with the government and laws. Examples of such include Rosa Park’s refusal to move away from her seat at the front of the bus, marches at Selma, and today, Native Americans fighting for their sacred land at Standing Rock by camping and several acts of protest by Black Lives Matter. Resistance reminds authorities that they are not in total control, while…

Analyzing an ad can show the author’s persuasive strategies. Both the Gillette and Blatz beer ads use a baby to target different audiences. “You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though everybody is watching March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in.”-Mandy Hale…
