Non conformity is so prevalent in today’s society because of how it promotes individualism. Ever since 1865, when slavery was official outlawed it has been a constant struggle for African Americans. Conformity can make life easier in some aspects by giving one person control to make the decisions. For example, Fidel Castro might have been known for his rule as a “ruthless dictator” but many remember one of his greatest achievements when he “dramatically [raised] the living standards of the impoverished Cubans” brining about peace and easy living for the less fortunate (Macleans, 1). When it is true that he accomplished better housing and living environments for the impoverished Cubans, he violently went against anyone who didn’t approve of his ideas or ways of carrying out those plans. Conformity in Cuba was forced and Fidel Castro used fear as a tool to get the Cuban people to follow along with his ways. Commonly associated with Fidel Castro is another ruthless leader, Vladimir Lenin. Vladimir Lenin ruled with a iron fist but “genuinely wanted a world without political oppression…and ethnic discrimination”, although he had questionable ways of implementing them (USSR, 2). Vladimir Lenin too thought that forcing his people to follow his specific ideas would prove successful but ultimately led to his ideas demise. For when he died his wishes were that his legacy would be carried on but his ideas about the future dissipated. Conformity can be used for good in some ways but not by force and fear.
