The article entitled, “No Time to be Nice at Work” by Christine Porath discusses how being a mean boss does not equate to success. Being nice is an indicator of a true leader. The article affirms that mean bosses can demoralize their employees simply by: walking away from a conversation due to lack of interest; pointing out flaws in front of others, taking credit or placing the blame on subordinates etc. These behaviors result in employees repressing their knowledge and have proven to cause health issues.
The solution is to be civil. Civility demonstrates competence and warmth. However, warmth and competence have an inverse relationship making competent bosses seem cold and warm bosses seem incompetent. Therefore, listening, thanking and sharing

    A good boss sometimes acts like a bad one basically because everyone reacts differently to various situations. Throughout the chapter Nicole gives many reasons and explanations on this particular topic. Just by reading the title of the chapter and giving a response off hand.
