The NMC & The Code
The NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) are the regulators for nurses and midwives in the UK. They aim to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public. They do this in a number of ways, for example:
*All nurses and midwives must be registered with the NMC and it is the NMC’s job to ensure that they are competent and qualified
*They set the standards of education and advice to ensure that all nurses and midwives have relevant skills and knowledge
*they uphold the standards of The Code. Any allegations against nurses or midwives will be investigated by the NMC via firm but fair processes

As nurses we are both responsible and accountable for our actions. Failure to adhere to The Code could result in legal action, suspension, investigation and even dismissal from nursing. It is through these guidelines that nurses are supported and educated to ensure consistent, high quality care is delivered.
How to use social networking Sites professionally And Responsibly
The internet is open to the public; anything written or put online can be observed and traced. It can be seen by family, mentors, friends and colleagues. All the professional standards mentioned above apply when using social networking sites, even when online we still represent the NHS.
