F-117A Nighthawk is an attacker military aircraft. It consists of a single seat and twin engines (Green & Green, 2008). The aircraft is also referred to as a stealth attacker. The technology demonstrator dubbed Have Blue was the basis of the F-117. Stealth technology was used to design the aircraft. The Nighthawk’s maiden flight occurred in 1981. In 1983, the aircraft eventually achieved the status of initial operating capability. F-117A Nighthawk is one of the most interesting, modern attack aircrafts. Skunk Works division of Lockheed developed this aircraft. Nighthawk played an integral part in the Gulf War (also referred to as the Persian Gulf War). The aircraft was widely known as the “Stealth Fighter” during the war that occurred in 1991.

An empty nighthawk weighs 29,500lbs. The length of the aircraft is 65’11’’ and the height is 12’5’’. The aircraft can hold a total weight of 52,500lbs. With air refueling from a different plane, the nighthawk’s range is unlimited. The aircraft contains two engines weighing 12,500lbs. The aircraft’s primary weapons are laser guided bombs – the pave way series GB-27 and GB-10 (Green & Green, 2008). One person flies the aircraft. The cost of building an F-117A Nighthawk is approximately 45million dollars. The U.S. Air Force built a total of 64 F-117A stealth attackers. The production versions of the aircraft that the US Air Force produced were 59. These aircrafts were produced with the help of Skunk works division. The Radar Absorbent Materials make the aircraft so stealthy. The stealth technology has made the nighthawk stand out for many years until April 2008 when the Air Force retired them. Besides, the aircraft’s sophisticated attack and navigation systems increase its effectiveness in missions.
