I determined That Elie Wiesel Is a Non-Static Character Because of the loss of his childhood, family, and identity. In the Memoir Night By Elie Wiesel, we are told the horrific life experience of how Elie went from a peaceful, religious, young jew to A victim of the holocaust. Elie has his Life turned completely upside down As he is separated from his family, Taken prisoner, and tortured in the process. As Elie loses his Identity, it takes away a valuable part of it; his faith in god. Elie’s first Encounter with his loss of faith is his first night in Auschwitz and how he came close to being cremated next in line. He later found out about the creamatory and how nazi’s were killing the weak, sick, and young, “Never shall I forget those Flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my god and my soul and turned my dreams to dust” (32). For instance, As Elie is fed up with no help or guidance, he defies against god and even questions him. “For the first time, I felt revolt rise up in me. Why should I bless his name? The eternal, Lord of the Universe, All-Powerful And Terrible, was silent. What had I to thank him for?” (Pg31) In the beginning He would Cry when he prays because “something inside him felt the need for tears.” Now as he faces the concentration camps, its as if he’s living in hell. Another time when His faith is questioned is when he witnesses the hanging of the young pipel. As he and hundreds of Jews watched a mere child hung, Many around him asked in tears “Where is god? Where is he?” Elie’s Identity has been destroyed along with his valued part in life; His religion and faith in god. As a prisoner in Auschwitz, He is tormented day in and day out but the torture with a long lasting affect is the loss of his family. Immediately, his Youngest sister Tzipora and his mother Sarah Wiesel, were sent to the crematory. “Never shall I forget those Flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my god and my soul and turned my dreams to dust.” (pg32). He and his father were separated with the two and never saw each other again. “Men to the Left! Women to the right!” At this point he is loosing everything, So from camp to camp he stayed with his father no matter what. “My hand tightened its grip on my father. All I could think of was not to lose him. Not to remain alone.” “After my father’s death, Nothing could touch me anymore” It all came to an end when his father died, he felt no pain, he felt empty because his family is all he had left. He felt free from caring about anything. Eliezer’s Loss of his family has scarred him for life. Elie’s childhood was ruined from the gruesome environment, from hangings to corpses and even people being burned alive. For example, when men faught for crusts of bread in the wagon because of starvation, “When they withdrew, next to me were two corpses, side by side, the father and son. I was fifteen years old.” It was everyday trauma for Eie. Another incident when elie lost his childhood is when an ordinary house wide Madame Schachtzer was screaming “Fire! Look at the fire!” She was hallucinating and to make her silent, other people on the train would beat her to make her be quiet, in front of her own child. Elie’s Torture or other sights of torture on the camps, trains, every corner was the same. Elie’s experience has caused him grow older at the same time young. Eliezer’s time as a prisoner in Aushwitz, Birkeneau, Buna, Gleiwitz and Buechenwald had eaten way his identity, deprived of his childhood, and Murdered his Family. Night, is a time of day where everything is dark and Tortrious. Each day was darkness, no sunshine, and only darkness.
