Over all public schools, there are only 4% that operate on a year round calendar. In that 4% there are 2 million students learning under a year round basis. Besides, year round schedules mitigate education loss from the previous school year. It also tarnishes the tradition of summer break, according to “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation?” by Laura Kelsey. Evidently the year round calendar is a prime solution to alter failing grades and help struggling students catch up. For instance, some students are overwhelmed with work and drama that occurs in school. With that in mind, year round schedules have more spread out recesses eradicating the overwhelming school environment. Simultaneously, year round calendars lessen memory loss between long breaks. Thus helping students retain and understand their curriculum. Lastly, studies show that American students are less proficient in academic topics.…

were satisfied with their child’s school experiences (Shields 9). For over 100 years, most schools have adhered to a traditional summer vacation schedule which stemmed from our primitive technological resources and advancements. However, as technological growth was made schooling throughout the year became more practical and thus the concept of a year-round schedule was introduced. With year-round schedules now becoming ever more prevalent and traditional schedules becoming slowly obsolete, a debate has sparked between the merits of the two. This debate has involved comparing the different advantages and disadvantages of the two schedules. While a traditional summer vacation may…

The Zodiac was very real villain, and no this villain does not have a giant evil lair or an army of henchmen. What he does have is a psychopathic and insane mind filled with twisted ideas as well as a bit of genius. This villain is the Zodiac Killer one of Americas most infamous serial killers. The Zodiac was active between the 1960's and 1970's, in this time he took 37 victims in total but the the police only counted seven as definite victims. The Zodiac is like a typical cliche horror movie villain but before the cliche, this mysterious criminal was clever and quick. For years he taunted the police and media, what set him apart from the average day to day serial master mind were his letters. He sent a total of eighteen letters throughout his career if you can call it that, to newspapers mostly though some to private citizens. His letters and cryptic messages would always begin with 'Dear Editor this is the Zodiac speaking.' He would demand for the letters to be published threatening to go on murderous rampages if they weren't.…

    The Zodiac Killer

Lucas Kelleher/ Street Law 10/3/08 The Zodiac Killer The Zodiac Killer is a serial killer who operated in Northern California in the late 1960s. His identity to this day still remains unknown. The Zodiac coined his name in a series of taunting letters he sent to the press. His letters included four cryptograms (or ciphers), three of which have yet to be solved. The Zodiac murdered five known victims in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco between December 1968 and October 1969. Four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 were targeted. Others have also been suspected to be Zodiac victims, but they have been ruled inconclusive. The lack of consensus about the number of victims, the inability of law enforcement to crack the ciphers, and the fact that several people have inconclusively been portrayed as "persons of interest" or possible suspects, has elicited this case's designation as a perfect crime. On August 1, 1969, three letters prepared by Zodiac were received at the Vallejo Times-Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco Examiner. The nearly identical letters took credit for the shootings at Lake Herman Road and Blue Rock Springs. Each letter also included one-third of a 408-symbol cryptogram which the killer claimed contained his identity. Zodiac demanded they be printed on each paper's front page or he would "cruse [sic] around all weekend killing lone people in the night then move on to kill again, until I end up with a dozen people over the weekend." The Chronicle published its third of the cryptogram on page four of the next day's edition. An article printed alongside the code quoted Vallejo Police Chief Jack E. Stiltz as saying "We're not satisfied that the letter was written by the murderer" and requested the writer send a second letter with more facts to prove his identity. The threatened murders did not happen, and all three parts were eventually published. On October 14, 1969, the Chronicle received yet…

As modern society advances at astonishing rates, it is a common occurrence that many mandated policies are rarely reviewed, and often become outdated.
