Neutron Stars are born from the deaths of stars. When a star dies, if it is not massive enough to become a black hole, it becomes a neutron star. A neutron star has a mass between one to 3 suns compressed into the size of central park. A sugar cube sized slice of a neutron star will weigh around 10 billion tons(around the mass of Mt. Everest). The reason it can do this is because hydrogen atoms(the simplest and lightest material) are around 99.9999999999996% empty space. The atoms in this star are compressed to the point where very little space is between the nucleus and the electron.
