The Effect of Diseases on an Athlete's Body When thinking about the disease that athletes get, and hearing more and more about it in the media, it has become a growing idea of what should be done. It is becoming very common that sports players are coming out that they are being diagnosed with either a neurodegenerative disease or some kind of CTE. Many researchers have found different causes to these diseases, but most of them lead back to sports and how the players get hit too hard or too much. The rising thought is what needs to be changed so athletes do not continually become diagnosed with these diseases. Athletes should be able to play the game they love and still feel protected by having better gear, a plan with the companies they work for, but should also follow the rules that are set for them by the administration they are signed under. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS, is a neurodegenerative disease of the brain that affects motor neurons. Sports administrators should become stricter and actually enforce the rules because now-a-days athletes know they can somewhat get away with illegally hitting another player. Also, athletes should have to wear improved protective gear. For example, baseball players should always have to wear a protective helmet. Instead they are just wearing baseball caps when they are out on the field. The only players that have to wear a helmet are the ones at bat and the catcher. The sports administration should also offer to help players and families when the athlete is diagnosed. Lastly, they should make a plan for what they will do for athletes with each disease.
