William G. Morgan created volleyball in 1895 as a YMCA P.E. director in the town of Holyoke, Massachusetts.. It was first called mintonette. The name came from the game called badminton. Mintonette, later known as volleyball, took certain things from tennis and handball and was designed to be an indoor sport. The game was intended to be better on a person’s body than basketball and was aimed more towards the older members of the YMCA while still requiring athletic ability. The first rules included a net that was 6 ft 6 tall, a court that was 25 ft by 50 ft big, and any number of players on the court at any given time.…
In dissecting this problem, it becomes evident that the demand for this particular sport is an issue. How many people have a desire to watch this sport, and furthermore are willing to pay a price for this entertainment? The WNBA fan base is slowly declining, and as a result, less money is being generated from the public. Spectators have concluded that the growing audience has been hard to come by for the WNBA, which is apparent by the league’s attendance history. With the WNBA falling short of its male counterpart attendance wise, the WNBA has the lower hand of the deal when it comes to ticket pricing. The WNBA is already put at a disadvantage by having half as many seasonal games as the NBA. The average WNBA ticket price is fifteen dollars as opposed to the average NBA ticket being forty-five dollars. When compared with the attendance rate, the women’s basketball league is struggling tremendously. With people already cutting back expenses from the hardships of the recent recession, this has made the opportunity cost for the less popular women’s ticket drop dramatically. Kyle Weidie in, The WNBA is worth it, states his reasoning on low sales and popularity by stating, “Men’s basketball is more athletically entertaining in contrast to general human athletic capabilities,” which would decrease the demand for women’s basketball. Weidie further states, “not to say women’s basketball is not athletically astounding in its own way, just very small in comparison to a pool of the world’s greatest athletes.” With the differences in athleticism and levels of entertainment, the public’s preferred choice has helped contribute to the economic blow within this organization. Coach P focused on individual team member physical strength as the greatest factor in making team selections at the beginning of the training season. One of the things that he should have done differently was to devise a method to observe the psychological attributes of the team, to determine which team members were likely to work well together. As a coach he should have attacked the new problems he observed without delay. He could have debriefed the Varsity team after each loss, while taking input from each team member, for example the meeting that was held closer to the national championships should have been earlier in the season, and scheduled periodically. Coach P should have found the most appropriate means to motivate the Varsity team after the first couple of losses. One of the two following methods of motivation could have been used. This is the island that gave the state its name. This island is the largest of them all in fact “Hawaii is twice as big as the other islands added together” (Neri p. 64). This island is home to several volcanoes, including the most active one in the entire world, Kilauea. Watching this volcano erupt is absolutely breathtaking, but it is extremely dangerous. It has completely engulfed over two hundred homes and covered several beaches. The only good effect the volcanic eruptions have to this island is the fact that it is growing. “Its lava flows have added almost 600 acres of new land to the island’s coast since 1983” (Neri p. 65). I had decided to try out for the varsity team, and in doing so I would be the youngest player on the team if I made it. However, after a week of tryouts, I was demoted to the junior varsity team. Beach volleyball has two people on each side of the court. The players wear goggles to protect their eyes from sand, and they don’t wear shoes of any kind. The sand causes resistance and doesn’t give a firm surface to push off when jumping, so the players are not as quick moving around the court, and must use a greater effort when jumping to block or spike the ball. As a result, they tire much more quickly. The smaller number of players makes the game move faster, since each individual must cover a much larger area of the court. Often times, the players are not able to move fast enough and get to the ball, causing the ball to drop and giving the point to the other team.…

Hawaii always has nice warm water for surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, scuba diving and snorkeling. With coral reefs abound and ocean animals richly populated, the underwater sights are fascinating. Having fun at the beach can be an everyday activity when you live in Hawaii.…
