Nba Draft Research Paper
The average age for NBA drafting is 24 years old. Compared to the minimum, 19, there is a big gap because the players are not capable of being drafted when 19. Therefore, high school players shouldn't be eligible for the NBA draft. Making high school players eligible for the NBA draft prevents them from getting a basic education, makes it harder to find good players, and makes the new players more prone to getting injured.
First of all, making high school players eligible for the NBA draft prevents them from getting a basic education. "The average dropout can expect to earn an annual income of $20,241, according to the U.S. Census Bureau (PDF). That's a full $10,386 less than the typical high school graduate, and $36,424 less than someone with

"The rule makes sure that players are not rushing into the NBA when they are not ready but also provides an opportunity for these players who decide to leave to mature both physically and mentally." (publicargument 8) New players are both more eager, and weaker, therefore, are more likely to get hurt when playing. While some people may say that high schoolers should be mature already, many of them have had no formal training, and therefore are still not ready. "More than 3.5 million children ages 14 and younger get hurt annually playing sports or participating in recreational activities." (stanfordchildrens 4) Younger players are more prone to getting injured. Even older and more experienced players get injured at a high rate, too, as shown on prezi: "The NBA has a injury rate of 44.6% per player." (Prezi 1)
In conclusion, the NBA should keep the age minimum for NBA drafting at 18, because younger players are unprepared, need an education, and getting rid of that rule makes it harder to find good players. "In the current NBA I would expect role players/starters players to enter their prime at an average of around age 24, and stars/superstars to do so around age 26." (fansided 17) A minimum age of 19 is, in fact, too young, as most people are beginning to get better at the age of 24. Decreasing the NBA draft's minimum age will result in more injuries, more burden on society, and an unnecessary waste of the NBA's

I am a huge college and NBA basketball fan like millions of other Americans. I love to watch my favorite college players go to the NBA and follow their career. The NBA has allowed high school basketball players to choose if they want to go directly to the NBA or go to college since 1971. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s it became more common for high school players like Lebron James, Kevin Garnett , and many other players choose to skip college and go directly into the NBA. Many people wanted a change in the rule, because they though the teenage players were too young, immature, emotionally and physically not ready to be in the NBA. In 2005, the NBA commissioner David Stern changed the rule and made it mandatory for US born high school players to be at least nineteen years old or one year removed from high school before entering the NBA draft. The rule basically raised the age limit to enter the NBA the rule would become known as the “one and done rule”. The rule change has had many positive and negative effects on the sport of basketball, colleges, coaches and players and become controversial.…

Some of the greatest stars in the NBA were drafted straight out of high school. Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard are just a few examples. Even though, as of 2006, the NBA eligibility rule states that a player entering the NBA draft must be at least nineteen years old and a year removed from high school, it is still a huge debate in the sports world of whether or not this rule is the right choice. Before the rule was set in place, NBA commissioner David Stern said, “We have the right to set an age limit in the collective bargaining agreement. I believe we can work together to come up with something that is legally correct and will withstand legal challenge” (Should the NBA). The rule he was referring to was eventually put into action, but not without disagreement from both sides of the argument. The following will present to you the reasoning behind both points of view on this matter.…

College football should think about the rules of the NCAA another way. The NFL makes football players wait three years after graduating high school before entering the draft (Bayless). With such a tight hold on players from the NCAA, means no income for players in that time frame. Outside of room, board, and tuition players should be able to receive payment of some sort. Scholarships looks really great to the outside eye, but scholarships in the market today isn’t worth the same as it was in past decades.…
