A significant other, such as a parent, teacher, or role model can help one to foster development. Do we actually learn who we are by interacting with others? As a little child, I loved to watch Michael Jackson's performances; I would mimic his catchy dance moves and even wear the glittery socks. I learned that I had a passion and art for music; this was something that was not hereditary. Many singers, do not have a genetic voice; their voices are trained to hit notes clearly. In contrast with music, characteristics or traits can be trained by a society or significant others. Ask yourself, why do I prefer hotdogs over sushi, if born in the US or why I prefer curry chicken over snails if born in the Caribbean. Trained taste or shall I say nurtured taste. Although genetic tendencies are important to ones self or personality, many nurture supporters believe that behavior originate from environmental factors of our upbringing. If nurture did not play a role in ones personality, then ALL twins, who were raised in two separate environments would be EXACTLY the
