Naturalistic Observation
The Effects of Alcohol on Behavior
A Naturalistic Observation Study

I conducted a Naturalistic Observation Study to examine some of the possible effects of alcohol consumption on the behavior of young adults. According to K. Cherry (2012) (What is Naturalistic Observation?, para. 1) A Naturalistic Observation is a method of research that is often used by psychologists and other social scientists in order to study and observe the behaviors as they would occur in their natural, un -disrupted setting with no attempt to intervene by the researcher. At approximately nine-thirty PM, my co-observer and I went to a small local pub. We proceeded to have a seat at a booth, where we began to observe a few select individuals. We

“Naturalistic Observation is a research method commonly used by psychologists and other social scientists. This technique involves observing subjects in their natural environment. This type of research is often utilized in situations where conducting lab research is unrealistic, cost prohibitive or would unduly affect the subject's behavior” (verywell.com). My experiment is an example of naturalistic observation because I watched and listened to conversations without interjecting myself or revealing to the subjects that I was observing them. I sat in Starbucks for about an hour listening to a conversation between three men sitting behind me and watching a conversation happening between two people sitting outside. I went to Starbucks at 4:00…

In order to do a naturalistic observation, the researcher must observe their research subjects in their natural setting. The research must be careful as to not disturb the subjects in their natural setting, so they must not have interaction with the subject unless absolutely necessary. There were a total of six subjects and they were observed for about 20 minutes. The ground of the place resembled the color of my alien skin and when I looked up I saw a color that resembles water and white puffs as well. I stood in the distance so that the humans would not suspect that I was observing them and their behavior.…

Over the past few decades, socially unacceptable behavior has become more acceptable. People have become so lazy that they put little to no effort in their appearance and don’t even care what anyone else thinks of it. The most common thing people do to prove how lazy and shameless they are is go out in their pajamas. Forty years ago, any woman wouldn't be caught dead at a supermarket in her nightgown. Yet now, more often than not people shop in the middle of the day in their pajamas. A study was conducted to figure out just how many people would shop in sleepwear. The people entering Walmart in the middle of the day were checked to see if they were wearing pajamas.…

For field observation assignment part 1 I decided that while waiting for my mother and sister to show, to meet for dinner, I would watch the social setting outside of the restaurant. Unfortunately, they got stuck in a lot of traffic and therefore, I was forced to sit there for a little over an hour. After observing them for an hour, and taking some notes, I was able to determine for the most part that everyone was very happy to be where they are, in that moment.…

Growing up, I was never that girl that fantasized about becoming a princess and meeting that special prince that would sweep me off my feet and save me from all misery. Even sorcery books such as the Harry Potter series did not appeal to me. I did not believe in any of that quirky fantasy land stuff so the idea of being dragged to the Michigan Renaissance Festival with my family over Labor Day weekend did not appeal to me; I would have much rather been out having fun in the sun barbequing with friends just as any other American typically celebrates the holiday. Staring out the car window all I saw was cornfields and the occasional Ma and Pa family owned restaurant or ice cream parlor. Mt. Holly came into view a little further down the road, but the slopes were dry and scarce due to it being summer. Tucked behind all the forestation was a small fairground where police orderly directed cars into the lot. The parking lot, overwhelmingly large in size, branched in two directions. One led to a general area and the other took cars single file down a long and winding path. This brought butterflies to my stomach. License plates were country wide varying from fellow Michiganders to visiting guests from neighboring states such as Indiana and Ohio and some traveling from as far away as Florida or Kansas. Once we secured our designated spot and our legs were fully stretched after sitting stationary for the hour drive we merged with the herd of people and marched together through the forest to discover this new unknown world.…

The purpose of this study was to conduct observations, using two different methods, on children, between the ages of 4-5, to understand their emotional behaviors in a social and learning environment as well as determining which method of observation was more reliable. There are different methods of conducting observations, but two main ones include naturalistic observation and experimental observation. A naturalistic observation method is when a researcher studies a person or group in their natural environment or setting; the behavior that is observed is one that occurs in a person’s everyday life. In contrast, an experimental observation method is when a researcher is studying a specific behavior in a laboratory-like environment.…

Why do people tend to feel attached to “things”? This is a very good question that needs some thought behind it to give you a clear understanding why people feel this way. It’s in our nature to show emotions. If you think about it, everything we do in our lives we are showing some sort of emotion or feelings. When I think of people being attached to “things” the first thing that pops in my head is little kids having a hard time of growing out of some of their habits. Really this attachment happens to every single one of us you just might not realize it. Certain circumstances though you have to draw a line between people that have an addiction and someone who has an attachment. Attachment is not something easy you can just let go. Many times to get rid of an attachment you need to slowly progress out of it. I would also have to say that love plays a major role in this question. Love and attachment can go hand in hand. Although we think that attachment is good in the end we always lose the things we love.…
