FDA VIII NELSON ASEMOTA 6HAMILTON September 14 - 11 “OBAMA’S SPEECH TO STUDENTS

I really liked your speech about the new school year, so I decided that I should write about it. This is a letter that I’d like Barack Obama to read.
The author’s purpose in this speech is to inform students about the school year that’s arriving at the high school. Obama went to the Wakefield High School’s student’s parents to make sure that they are ready for the new school year. He told the parents that he wants the students to get their homework done each night, instead of spending the homework time on TV and Xbox. He said that because the time for that was during the summer which was finished. Mr. President also went to all of the professors. All he wanted to tell them was to make sure to push the students so they could be a good source for the United States. Lastly he told the students that he wants to see high grades from freshmen to seniors.
I have two small questions for Mr. President. In your speech he said that his mother home school him. He had to wake up at 4:30 each morning and go to class which was in his house kitchen. The reason why he had to do that was because his mother didn’t have enough money to pay for him to go to an American school. Here is my first question is: “How did you feel back then?” His mother homeschooled him Obama's house kitchen which is a disadvantage compared to others that went to a normal public or private school. Also his mother was teaching him. Also his dad left him when he was two years old. So my question is: “Did you feel like you had a disadvantage, become the president compared to others?"

In Mr. President’s speech you mentioned a lot of jobs people want to become in the future. One of the jobs he mentioned was architect. I wanted to become an architect since I was 5 years old. When an important person say something that you like also makes me feel important.
I have two big questions for Mr. President which are outside of his speech. First: “How did you become the first black president in history?” In his speech he said that his mother homeschooled him. So how did he end up president? My next question is

Hello, I am so honored to speak in front of all the parents, staff and my fellow students today. Wow guys we made it! These past 3 years have been full of so many memories that I know we’ll never forget. Think all the way back to 6th grade we were always the littlest ones and I remember feeling like a fish out of water. We were terrified of getting lost or being late for class, but excited to have a locker to decorate and change classes each period. It doesn’t seem like that was over 2 years ago at all. We came back in 7th grade, much more confident than the year before. We looked down to the new 6th graders, asking "Were we really that short just last year?" And by the end of 7th grade I was shocked that I was officially an 8th grader. 8th grade is defiantly my favorite year. I feel like I have everything under control. But next year is full of changes. We'll have free periods, more homework, electives, and an open campus. The new choices also bring new responsibilities that test us in figuring out how we grow from kids to adults. As we say goodbye on the last day we sit together as Balboa students, we reflect on what has happened the past 3 years, but also look forward to what is coming up in the next 4 years. My advice to future 8th graders is to keep up with your school work and try your absolute best and make lots of good, loyal friends that don’t get you in the bad kind of crowd. And most importantly, have fun! This is the last year you will be the oldest in the school for another 4 years, so enjoy it! I’d like to finish this speech off with this quote : A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.-Ayn Rand…

How did the Indian societies of South and North America differ from European societies at the time the two came into contact? In what ways did Indians retain a “world view” different from that of the Europeans? An obvious distinction between the two civilizations is the Indians lacked weapons, tools, or sciences comparable to that of the Europeans. The Native Americans also existed in small, loose groups that lacked unity, while the Europeans were able to establish cities and alliances; another reason the Europeans conquered them easily. The fact that the Indians lived in a primitive agricultural society formed Indian reverence for the land which they believed belonged to all people unlike the Europeans who believed that they had dominion over the land and nature and could transform it at their will. But the Native Americans revered nature and the physical world spiritually and had neither the means nor want to transform the land. Religious views were different among both groups as well. The Indians were polytheists who believed in nature as various sprits who are part of one great deity. The Europeans were monotheist and believed in a simple world dived between good and evil. The Europeans regarded the Indians as savages and thus put full effort in conversions.…

The values promoted in Barack Obama’s Farewell Address are hopeful for the future as he talks about the safety of all citizens of the United States of America. He seems concerned with the education of the youth and the increase in jobs. Trump describes America as “A Mad Max-like dystopia” when the United States has accomplished things that we may never have accomplished without former president Barack Obama.…

For 2013 address, the president stated his plans starting with reducing the U.S deficit and debt. However, he emphasizes that the reduction of deficit alone is not an economic plan. Therefore, the president recommended that it will be made by getting rid of tax loopholes and deductions for the well-off and well-connected. Also, it will be done through cutting the same amount from Medicare as suggested in the Simpson-Bowles Report. Second, the president stated that our priority is making America a magnet for new jobs and manufacturing. He asked the congress to help create fifteen new public-private partnerships for manufacturing innovation and technology. President Obama also guaranteed that the next revolution in manufacturing will be made in America. Third, the president proposes for alternative energy. He suggested that we should use some of our oil and gas revenues to fund an Energy Security Trust that will drive new research and technology to shift our cars and trucks off oil for good. Also, the president will keep on speeding up new oil and gas permits. Fourth, President Obama talked about the immigration reform. He proposed putting more boots on the southern border than at any time in our history, and reducing illegal crossings to their lowest levels in 40 years which has something to do with stronger boarder security, and background check. Fifth proposal was about education, regarding the availability of school in every child in America.…

Dear future president, There’s an important issue i would like to discuss. There is a need to reduce the cost of college tuition in America. There are rising tuition expenses that threatens the ability and difficulty for students to attend college. The struggle that most americans are facing is not getting into college, or questioning if they are smart enough to even get into the college. No, the problem is many americans struggle with affording an exclusive college because half can’t pay for the pricey tuition and additional cost. The fact that college tuition is still rising, it scares many, even though they have a yen for a college degree. The two reasons for this effort are that college costs are taking an enduring percentage out of americans…

The Aboriginal people were the first Australians and Owners of the land. As Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were traditionally gatherers and hunters, they had a very strong relationship with the land. They are also deeply spiritual, value community life strongly and revere their ancestors. Therefore, elders were usually the decision makers. Different tribes used to move around searching for food and water, but always respected the land and resources it provided. They have sacred sites and maintained their beliefs and culture through ceremonies which incorporated music, singing, dancing and body painting. They have a very old culture, and traditions have been passed on through generations (Open Colleges, 2015).…

In the text: "Prepared Remarks of President Barack Obama: Back to School Event", President Obama deals with this issue and tries to convince the students of Wakefield High-school in Arlington, Virginia that every single one of them has a purpose in this world. Every talent, every independent thought is valued and is a brick in the foundation of America's future. Keeping up with traditions, the President of America: Barack Obama delivered his third annual speech in the year two thousand and nine, at a high-school in the beginning of the school year. His words were dedicated to the students "(...) no matter what grade you are in (...)" It is clear from the beginning of the speech that it is spoken by Barack Obama as a private individual and not as the leader of ay political party or the President of the United States. An example of this is that he through the entire speech addresses himself as "I" not "we" as politicians usually do in speeches. This is him speaking to the students as an equal which makes him an easily identifiable and reliable orator. Throughout the speech Obama is strongly emphasising phrases like "(...) I want to talk with you" and "I've talked a lot about your government (...)" These are examples of Barack Obama stressing how serious he is about engaging in dialogue with the student as he presents the government as national property, which everyone has an influence on. several times obama mentions personal memories of…

Indigenous people are those that are native to an area. Throughout the world, there are many groups or tribes of people that have been taken over by the Europeans in their early conquests throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, by immigrating groups of individuals, and by greedy corporate businesses trying to take their land. The people indigenous to Australia, Brazil and South America, and Hawaii are currently fighting for their rights as people: the rights to own land, to be free from prejudice, and to have their lands protected from society.…

The composition of the speech isn’t complex or difficult to follow – it’s structure is very simple with an introduction, the message of the speech supported by different arguments and at last an ending with a short summary of what he just said. The speech is directed towards students of all ages, as previously mentioned, and with opening the speech with “(…) how’s everybody doing today?” Obama sets the scene and reaffirms his authority not just as the most powerful man in the world – but more importantly, as an equal to everybody who are listening. This use of ethos works, even though it isn’t new, because Obama knows that people doesn’t want to be talked down to by an authority of any kind. Also he chooses to address the students directly by mentioning every grade and giving them a sense og familiarity: “And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, […]. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, […]”…

Moreover, I could make out resemblance between Leithwood (1994) concepts of transformational leadership dimensions and the speech. Here President Obama is building the vision by establishing goals in students. He provides intellectual stimulation using examples of students who had overcome their unfavorable circumstances in order to prove their selves in their life. He added that teachers are there to help them they should meet them for quarries. He also revised the history of century what student have contributed so far and laid a question, what they will contribute to country? He also put his point saying that they should work hard, respect and trust their teachers, parents, grandparents and should not any one let down.…
