In today’s ever changing healthcare world, effective communication among healthcare team members is essential to provide safe and quality patient care. Conventional communication methods such as the telephone and the word of mouth are no longer the most effective ways of communicating important aspect of patient care. So health organizations are adopting communication systems which improve interaction among healthcare providers (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2012). Recently my hospital adopted a new operating system called Care Logistics. Care logistics is a “…centralized care coordination model to…

The evidence-based practice guideline that I chose is titled, “Myocardial Infarction,” written by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim. The intended users for this guideline are health care providers and physicians. The target population is individuals with suspected or known myocardial infarction. The objective of this guideline is to “collect, summarize, and update the core clinical knowledge essential in general practice” and “describe the scientific evidence underlying the given recommendations.” (Finnish Medical Society Duodecim, 2008)…
This paper will be addressing a clinical case study from the writer's current experience that illustrates collaborative nursing practice. According to Schueller and Kimbrell (2003, p. 2), "When one refers to collaborative practice within a hospital setting, they are referring to healthcare personnel working together to care for patients and families". Collaboration is defined as "working together, especially in a joint intellectual effort to achieve a desired outcome; to cooperate" (American Heritage Dictionary, 2000).…

The associate degree prepared nurse is more technical, and the baccalaureate degree prepared nurse is more professional (Giger & Davidhizar, 1990, p. 1013). The baccalaureate degree prepared nurse receives education in leadership skills, community health, and in depth critical thinking using nursing theories and conceptual framework. There are many studies indicating increase positive patient outcomes with the increase of baccalaureate nurses. Therefore, by increasing nursing education, the patients receive a higher standard of…

Kimberly, Thank you for your post. In my capstone paper I presented a paper about teaching a subject on cultural diversity for nurses. I want this class to be an in-service class just like yours. A 45 minutes class and not a 4-8 week semester class would be best for me to teach. I am not ready to teach beyond 45 minutes. I think teaching comes with time and experience. I would not like to give a boring lecture, but a person has to start somewhere. Sorry about the way things are happening at your work place, but you will overcome and succeed. A prior class on capstone fundamentals would have enlighten me on how to write a capstone that is agreeable.…
Nursing profession is the largest division of the healthcare employees. Nurses play an important role when it comes to patient care. There are many obstacles that prevent nurses from being able to respond effectively to constantly changing healthcare system and to make changes and advance health, these obstacles need to be overcome. This article, “Relationship between call light use and response time and inpatient falls in acute care settings”, focused on three main points of interest. The first was the use of call lights from inpatients and their families. The second was the nurses’ response time to the call light. Finally, the third was the amount of inpatient falls that occurred. The goal of the study was to determine whether the call light use rate and the average call light response time contributed to the fall and injurious fall rates in acute care settings. The study was conducted in a Michigan community hospital and used archived hospital data for analyses for the period from February 2007 to June 2008. The unit of analysis was unit-week. The results of the study were as follows: more calls for assistance were related to less fall-related harm, longer response time to call lights related to fewer total falls and less fall-related patient harm, and more call light use related to longer response times (3333). So, in conclusion, this study challenged the idea that call lights should be used less or responded to faster.…

Some of the key points from this letter is that the American Nurse Association (ANA) is not in favor of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) because the act deliberately threatens health care affordability, access, and delivery for individuals across the nation (Cipriano, 2017).…
The purpose of this assignment is to critically evaluate two journal articles from a selection of six. One is a quantitative piece; the other is a qualitative piece. A framework devised by Benton and Cormack (2000) has been used to help the process of critiquing in this assignment. This particular framework had been chosen, as it is a comprehensive framework covering most points needed in the critiquing process. This framework can be applied to both qualitative and quantitative research. However the framework will not be used as a definitive checklist. In this assignment the first article that will be discussed is a qualitative piece of research by Simons J., Franck L. &Roberson E (2001). Titled : Parent involvement in children's pain care: views of parents and nurses. Journal of Advanced Nursing, 36(4), 591-599.…
