It’s like being in love; you smile at the thought of well known company. When you know the direction leads to your favorite shopping department, your thoughts already circulate on what clothes to wear and which colors would be possible to combine. The first sight of the nail polish stand makes the tips of your fingers tingle; of eagerness. Your heartbeat pace increases a little while you approach the up lit stand. Finally you face all the beautiful small, tiny, glass bottles; each filled with unique liquid colors ready to be used and admired. The colors sparkle and shine like stars brought down from heaven; to earth. The feeling of the bottles’ smooth surfaces makes a nice electric wave roll up your spine. Excitement! Now the chase of finding ‘the one’ or ‘the ones’ you want to carry with you home; has begun. Finding exquisite and suitable colors aren’t so difficult, at least not as difficult as many people think. The obstacle which is not easy to evade, is finding the right but yet wonderful excuse to give yourself; when you at the end of the month have to keep an eye on your bank account. Excuses which might pop up: “I needed this nail polish. My outfit for the family gathering, wouldn’t have been complete, or look nearly as great with any of the other polishes (I already got stashed at home).” or “I simply couldn’t risk to show up at my sister’s party with the same polish twice!” or “I had to cheer myself up that day when Aunt Anne was hospitalized, plus she appeared optimistic and liked the new color on me.” OR my favorite “It was on sale!”…

My obsession began in the sixth grade where i found myself fascinated with doing hair and the products and the foods that could improve your hair and skin and I wanted to learn more. By my freshman year in high school, I already knew what I wanted to focus on: cosmetology. My first cosmetology competition was Skills USA. I was chosen to compete in the 90 degree hair cut event. Once I arrived at the school for the competition, I noticed all types of different academies; academies from construction to culinary. I walked into the cosmetology room where my competition was being held. I began to set up my station, shampooing my manikin’s hair and pulling out my shears and razor blade. As the 40 minute timer started, I reached for my razor blade…
