Narrative Essay On American Identity
During my grandparents age, there were many restrictions on careers because of gender, race, and religion. Wars were historical events that changed their outlook on America. Then, during my parents age, terrorist struck and change the unity of country, but also increased discrimination and prejudices. My age has tried to stop discrimination, and increase the education of the next leaders. We will be the technology age that brings America together or splinters it. Americans from different time periods see American identity differently, and it has changed throughout many generations.
My grandparents have views on American identity. They think it is how we think of ourselves, but there are many different parts and cultures. Wars have shaped their generation and what they think of as an American identity. My grandfather’s “ life has been affected by the Cold War and the national draft (conscription) of young men into our armed forces”. Fighting changed his generation and their identity. My mom believes that Thomas Jefferson founded this country with undeniable rights that are supported by checks and balances. We believe in democracy, liberty, and equality, and we are idealistic and we think we can help everyone. Terrorist attacks and wars have changed our freedoms and started prejudices.
