Narrative Essay: Expert Fortune Teller
Looking up at the faded, creaking sign that said “Expert Fortune Teller, Miss Travis”, a shiver ran down my spine. I shifted my glance to the chipped caravan door. I lifted my clammy, cold hand and screwed up all my courage, and knocked three times. The door squeaked slowly open. A croaking voice said, “Welcome, please come in and sit in this chair.”
The air inside the caravan was damp. The flickering candle on the table lit up the room eerily.
Miss Travis wore a long dress, with coins and bangles stitched to the dark purple material. On her head, she wore a black veil. Her dark brown eyes looked at me knowingly. I walked to the moth-eaten chair looking suspiciously at the cards and crystal ball on the table top. I sat down on the thin lining.

I rushed to the shower, quickly washed and then got dressed up.
I was putting on my shoes on, when my mom poked her head out of the kitchen door and asked,
“Where are you going?”
“To the new night club with Mandy.”
“Oh no,” mum groaned, “ i was hoping you would help me, as your dad is ill. I have so much to do.”
I pondered for a moment. I thought about the new nightclub that probably had a new disco with free drinks. All my friends would be there. The other choice was to stay in my leaky creaky house and burn holes in my clothes with our defective iron. I obviously chose the first choice, because it would be my first ever time in a nightclub as I had just turned eighteen.
“Mum, I’ll help you tomorrow, I promise.” I went over to her and gave her a hug.
“Very well, Haley; but I have a bad feeling about

It was five minutes to nine and the journey would take at least ten. I didn’t want to be late. The speed limit was 40 miles an hour. If I sped up to 50 maybe I would get there on time.In my mind, I could see Mandy waiting outside by the door. The lights were green, so I headed straight for them, hoping to get through before they changed. I was two cars back when I saw the lights change to amber. I followed the black car ahead, although I knew I should have stopped. The black car turned left but I continued straight, heading for the other side of the road. Suddenly a breathtaking sight met my eyes. A car from my right had started early and was gaining speed. I saw everything in slow motion. The driver was looking down, perhaps writing a text. He flicked his gaze up for a moment and his expression changed to horror. I tried to swerve away from his car but it was too late. The car car was inches from mine. Then there was such a force, that I had not experienced before, not even on the fastest roller coaster. My body was thrown back, my head throbbed, my vision blurred and everything went

Climbing into the lime green car, my fear was over taking me. I was getting ready to ride the Titan, an adrenaline pumping roller coaster ride at Six Flags. It was easily the scariest ride at the park, in my opinion, with its enormous peaks, its deep descents, and double helix like turns was enough to make me sick. The ride began. Ascending up in the car on the canary yellow track, into the humidity filled, bright sky, the people observing from below resembled little army ants . The aerial view of Dallas was breathtaking, as I reached the peak of the ride and looked around. Passengers occupying the cars in front of me started falling off, like a cliff. I let out a high-pitched shrill, as we plummeted toward the Earth below. Traveling…

It looked normal, except these two big men standing in the middle of the room.…

There were two more pieces of furniture. A heavy, dark leather chair made its home in one corner. It obviously had seen plenty of use in its day. Next to it stood a round table supported by three ornately carved, curved legs. This room ensemble was then complemented by a large Persian rug. And how I loved to sit in the middle of the room and trace the carpet's intricate motifs.…
