Day Gone Wrong
Waking up during winter break on a rather chilly morning, twenty degrees and it was precisely 9:00 a.m. and I was more than ready to drive to Quincy, Illinois, hop on an airplane, and head to my hometown Klamath Falls, Oregon. When I got to the airport I thought to myself what a phenomenal day this will be. I thought wrong. I was faced with the challenges of bad weather, delays, and the reality that my brother was becoming detached from the family; this day became a day where everything went wrong. Upon my arrival to the St. Louis airport my next departing flight to Chicago had already been delayed an hour.
“Great,” I thought sarcastically. Wishing the delay would disappear I glanced at the departures/arrivals board for a second time.
“YES!” I abruptly whispered.
The flight to Chicago before mine was also delayed and had yet to take off! I raced through the airport to get to the terminal! Thankfully the flight attendant let me on the plane! My time in the air was short and sweet but I knew once I got to the Chicago airport I had an agonizing and lengthy wait.
There I was, one o’clock in the afternoon standing in one of the biggest airports in the U.S. I found myself blankly staring at the arrival/departure board, feeling helpless as I read that my original flight that departed at 4:00pm was now departing at 6:00pm.
“This is fun, being at an airport for 5 hours is fun,” I gloomily thought to myself. I could easily tell my mind was throwing the earlier thoughts of this being a phenomenal day into a pit of lava. I did what any person would do and got something to eat! A veggie burger and some delicious fries! Looking at my watch, only 30 minutes passed by. Pondering what to do to pass the time I thought of listening to music. I bought myself a set of headphones and began to try to make time fly.
Finally 6:00 p.m. rolls around and I am so ready to get on my plane, I still have to make a connecting flight in Portland,

First after the 9/11 attacks, airlines in the United States experienced a dramatic increase in activity for security purposes. Travelers must check in at least two hours before their flight takes off. There are restrictions on what travelers can and cannot bring. Liquids have to be a certain size and placed in clear, sealed containers. No food or bottled water is allowed through security. Passengers are selected at random for more intense screenings. Over the decade, airport security has introduced new equipment, thus creating longer lines.Today, the lines move a little faster, mostly because travelers have become accustomed to the post 9/11 restrictions.…

This report aims to analyze and attempt to reduce Logan airport’s delay problem in the year 2000. The airport was experiencing unacceptable numbers of delays due to three main problems: 1) Weather conditions, 2) Mix of aircrafts, and 3) Overscheduling. Under normal weather, the three-runway configuration is sufficient to handle incoming and outgoing planes. However, the delay problem at Logan is the most acute during severe weather, as only one runway is allowed to operate. With annual operation expected to increase to 510,000 to 656,000 in 2015, it is imperative that Logan finds an effective solution to have enough capacity in the long run to handle this projected demand.…

“Passengers flying Flight QF563, your gate is now open for boarding”, I peacefully sipped what remained of my coffee and waited for Joshua to finish his bacon and egg roll. Shortly after, we began to make our way to our designated gate. The smell of low-priced takeout food filled the air and couldn’t help, but leave me feeling overly excited. My son and I navigated our way through the clustered crowds of other keen travellers, following the signs above our heads as well as the announcements that were played through the speakers at the airport.…

It was a warm sunny day, like the ones you would expect in a summer camp; laughter was the melody that filled the air. Everybody was cheerful and enthusiastic, well everybody except one of our counselors. He was very worried, because his sister had been extremely sick, and nobody had been able to heal her. Everybody in my group had told him how sorry we felt for her, but really nobody connected with his situation, so we were not thinking about it. Instead we were immerging our souls into the contentment that was surrounding us. That day while we were acting, everybody was relaxed, focused and happy on what we were doing. We were living in our own little summer bubble. We decided to take a small break, in between the laughs I remember a friend saying “Isn’t it surprisingly amazing how beautiful life can be?”. That was the last sentence said before a cell phone rang and changed the course of the day.…

We asked ourselves and each other. Wandering through the crowd, we realized and came to the conclusion that we had arrived at a concert. As the music delighted us for about 20 minutes, we realized we still had to go the CN Tower, so we headed toward the exit and continued our journey. The CN Tower appeared to be nearby because it was so tall, but in reality it was a long way to go for us. By the time we had arrived CN Tower it was about 6 o’clock. We had finally arrived to our destination! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go inside because the waiting was about 2-3 hours. We didn’t want to wait that long, and since we were so tired we sat down and took a…

Later that morning, in the sunlit dining hall, breakfast was being severed. My group sat at the table we sat at the night before. As I started to eat my tater-tots , the events from yesterday filled my mind. My group went snorkeling, both day and night, I could still feel the cold water soak my wetsuit. I remembered that Mr. Lacey, our principal, announced that the school would be leaving today because of a storm. It was 3 a.m on a Saturday morning. My mother came in to wake us up. It was finally the day I had been waiting for. I had never been so excited to wake up at 3 o’clock in the morning in my life. We had finally arrived at the airport and boarded our first flight to Mexico City. When we had arrived in Mexico we were exhausted from the flight and realized we still had one more three hour flight, then paradise. We went to wait in line to start checking in our bags for our flight. As we were waiting, an hour went by; then, two hours passed, finally, we heard an announcement. We all paused and listened. “Flight 36 to Cancun is cancelled until…

Indeed, air business is reaching historic highs, but flight delays are too. During 2006, more than 23% of flights were either late or cancelled. If it is not an overbooking situation, it is weather, if it is not weather, it is a malfunction; the possibilities are unlimited. Even the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is aware of the situation, but its actions are virtually useless. The delays will not only be the same, but are expected to worsen up during the next coming years (“on-time”, 2007).…
