Napoleon At Waterloo
June 20, 1815 Napoleon: the little corporal who was defeated by the British at Trafalgar ten years ago now tries to prompt Britain, Prussia, Russia, and Austria into war. June 18th Wellington had stayed at the Waterloo inn while Napoleon was three miles south. Willington, in dire need of assistance was awaiting Blucher eighteen miles west of Waterloo recuperating in Wavre. The approaching forces of Napoleon outnumbered Willington’s with his being approximately 68,000 and Napoleon’s being roughly 72,000 soldiers. Willington established a defensive position by blocking the road to Brussels to stop Napoleon’s advance forward. Knowing that his men were outnumbered Willington devised a plan to position his men behind a ridge and three garrisoned …show more content…
Soon after Napoleon had sent 18,00 soldiers along the Brussels to attack the center hold. And with that the Napoleon forces had taken the center hold. Later followed Lord Uxbridge, Wellington’s cavalry commander had two brigades over the ridge. With the Napoleon soldiers advancing towards the British line opportunity had show itself. The cavalry had charged the French infantry, slicing through the forces on the ground. Napoleon’s line had been weakened brutally but Wellington’s left flank was also damaged and he could not afford another attack until the reinforcements arrived. Five miles east of the battlefield Napoleon’s forces had reached the Blucher’s troops. The Prussian forces were not able to get to the battle field but were able to form their own battle line and forced Napoleon to send more resources to the Prussians battle site. Some time later on the battlefield the French were able to Allied front line. When they had reached the ridge Wellington had given the order to stand and fire.
