NHS Education Scotland Case Study
NHS Education Scotland (NES) is a professional training and educational development service with the responsibility to provide training and education to the healthcare workforce in Scotland. They work with universities around Scotland to provide placements for student nurses. NES provides training programmes for nurses to help develop their skills and knowledge (take a look at case study Claire Stiles – Health Visitor, NHS Shetland). The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register was introduced by the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to help train and educate people interested in becoming a social worker. The most important role of this register is to shield the public from any harm and protect them. It was also created to boost the public's confidence in social workers as the people on the register have been deemed fit to work in social services and it makes sure that all workers are working at the same level of skill and ability and are …show more content…
There are 4 branches of nursing to choose from – adult, child, mental and learning difficulties. During a nursing placement, student nurses will be supervised by professional nurses in either a hospital ward or some health service setting. Once qualified, nurses must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and be cleared by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Newly qualified nurses could expect to earn between £22,000 and £28,000 and experienced nurses could earn up to £41,000. To become a social worker, people can do an undergraduate course of 3 years full time or do a master's degree for 2 years full time and once qualified they’ll register with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and also, be cleared by the DBS. Newly qualified social workers can get a salary up to £24,000 a year and when become experienced enough, it can go up to £40,000 a
