Myths And Heroes By Jeff Bezos
We are going to deal with the notion “Myths and Heroes”. To begin with I would like to give a definition of the notion. A myth is a popular belief, and a hero is a person who is admired for having done something very brave or having achieved something great. It’s only a matter of opinion, I can consider someone a hero whereas you don’t. In relation to the notion the subject of my presentation will be “The Heroes of our society”. Nowadays, some people say that our heroes haven’t achieved much except celebrity. On that note, we may wonder to what extent do the heroes of today seek something more than just celebrity.

He was looking for more than just celebrity, he wanted to revolutionize the world.
Furthermore, on document 4 unit 14 (listening) Steve Jobs delivers a speech in a famous American University. Steve Jobs created and built Apple, one of the most valuable companies in American history. He achieved something great making him a hero.
On the third part of his speech, he talks about death and how it gives him the strength to seize the day, to make the most of his life by knowing that someday it will happen. So, he encourages the students to follow their hearts and be the masters of their destiny. As time is limited he says that they should live each day as if it was their last, staying creative and foolish.
His whole speech consists on giving advises based on his own experience. And, even by being a billionaire, Steve Jobs does not talk about money or celebrity during his speech. He wants to encourage people, to motivate them. He doesn’t care about being famous. Most of us think that heroes make a lot of money, appear on TV, etc.… and for the most part they do, but there are those who don’t. On document 4 unit 8 (Facing reality), we can see another category of heroes, those who are struggling to survive, who put up a fight every morning when they wake up: the immigrants. On this document, we have a group of Mexicans that is trying to cross de U.S.-Mexico border. Once they’ve crossed the Rio Grande they’ve encountered a group of smugglers who led them to a miserable truck. Miles ahead, the smugglers pretended the truck had a problem that there was a breakdown and asked the Mexicans to step off until the engine was repaired. But, it was a trap! When the engine purred nicely, the American guide betrayed the immigrants and left them maroon in the middle of nowhere with no supplements. Well, by the end of the afternoon they were all dead due to the appalling conditions that they were up
