Writing Identities
In my opinion most people talk differently depending on who they are talking to. When a teenage girl or guy is talking to their friends they could be saying “Aye! We go drink tonight!” but in front of their boyfriend/girlfriend’s parents their tone of voice and their choice of words changes. For example they will might say “Hello aunty/uncle. How are you today?” or “Let me help you with that.”. They will probably say it in the sweetest voice and act all proper contrary to when they are with their friends. It is all about who their audience is and also how they are being treated by their audience.
I am loud, talkative, crazy, and probably the most dirty minded person to my friends and my boyfriend. While at school or a new environment I am quiet and I …show more content…
Then there is my family. I come from a somewhat traditional/local Filipino family. So I kind of have to watch what I say around them especially the older generation relatives. My tone changes around them also, my tone is more respectful and less crazy. Filipinos can be very judgemental at times and often offend others, I know I have to be respectful but at times when I can’t handle it I speak to them in a sassy voice. At work I have to act professionally of course so even though I am pissed off or having a bad day I have to still have that welcoming professional voice. However when a customer irritates me, my tone changes just a little. I am Catholic so I go to church when I can and I also serve for the youth ministry called LifeTeen. My tone changes also, I kind of changes into like a leader which is what I do. I lead the teens in group sessions and just talk about God and I have to sound professional just like at work especially since I am on Holy Grounds also so I have to sound somewhat proper. Even on my

    A family as dysfunctional as ours, you must understand why being so different is so hard. Having a twin brother who is the perception of a golden child, and a sister, who is probably going to be the next Miss America, really makes you stand out as the ‘other’ sibling. I obviously lack the physical genetics which my brother and sister gained to my disadvantage. Being in my family is hard; not knowing which snide remark would come next towards my supposed unworthiness to sit at golden table for dinner. My father sitting at the head wearing his golden earpiece constantly on call, my brother opposite me with his short sleeved armour flexing silently so that I may always know that his physical dominance is ever present. My sister, constantly texting and hearing all the bells and whistles radiating from her cell. My Mum the only one I feel actually cares if I’m there or not, always asking me about my day. I know she doesn’t understand or even care for my love of physics and how my assessments went because she is too worried about the other two golden children. If my brother will pass high school or have to do another year, and if my sister’s new love is suitable. My dad, full of pride when our golden table is ringing with tales of winning fights, new boyfriends or godlike traits that all, except me, present. Even though I’m with my family I feel isolated, like I’m trapped in a cell of gold, golden walls, gold bars, gold roof and gold floor. No matter where I look there’s gold and knowing I can’t escape this gold cell is worse. So inside, I see my world as diamond, where I’m the hero, I’m god, and I’m judge, jury and executioner.     My writing history is all over the place. I took Honors English my eleventh grade year, and loved it but took AP English my senior year and hated it.
