The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. From a young age we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up, never how we expect to become when we grow up. I was well aware of what I wanted to become, but not sure how to get there until I started high school when my counselor explained to me the importance of having a full portfolio with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Then it became clear to me, I needed extracurricular activities to become who I wished to be. Throughout my high school career I’ve participated in several extracurricular actives such as math club, soccer and UIL One Act. In the future, I want to participate in these activities or anything similar to those I participated in high school.…

My high school graduating class consisted of 66 students, so obviously everyone knew everyone and unfortunately everyone’s business. When I was a junior, a well-known and liked senior boy had a very public breakup with his girlfriend of 3 years. They had met as freshmen and were expected to marry after finishing school. The next day he drove his car at what police estimated in excess of 100 miles per hour into a concrete railroad bridge that crossed the main road out of town. After that, the bridge became known as Burkett’s bridge and I was never able to drive through it without getting a chill and goosebumps on my arms. It’s been over 40 years since high school, and it is amazing how often I still think of Bobby and his…

Transferring to me is not just about getting my diploma, it is to teach myself discipline. Growing up in an immigrant family, you are held to a high standard within any regard. My parents always have tried to give me the best and expect for me to give the very best in anything I do. Coming from a family where no one graduated college was a tough thing for me being the oldest child. It lead to lost discipline and motivation in high school because I had no guidance for my future in education. This being said, I have matured since and that lack of motivation is now at an all time high. I want to make my family proud, I want to be a good role model for my younger brothers, but most importantly I want to show myself that I can achieve anything no matter the circumstances. With my high hopes come my objectives of improving my self confidence and faith. Many times in life I have cut my self…

So, I take this class to hopefully better myself in this area and to progress into a better writing style. Topics in this paper are going to be what I see as the 3 stages of my writing history. My very brief writings of High School to the rampant writings in College to the not writing anything for a good 20 years and then needing to write instructions for a company trying to complete validations for the FDA.…

Over the past four years of high school, I have seen growth in my essay, like most anyone would. My weaknesses are and continue to be word choice and syntax, however, it is not as bad as it used to be and I persist to improve on it every essay I write. My strengths encompass a compelling grabber and an effective use of transitions. I still have masses to improve on in my writing, but it has come a long way from what it once was.…

In four years when I read this I honestly won’t be surprised if nothing really changes. I can’t see myself changing in any major ways. I will always love sports, hunting, fishing guns and anything that has four wheels. I sure I will still not understand the point of reading books for school and writing long papers about things that I don’t exactly care or relate to me. Although, in order for this letter to do it’s job in four years I need to start from the beginning.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…
