My view on School library and three strong steps to improve the present library services to attract users of the school. By Santosh kumar Akki

It is my belief, simplistic and idealistic, that schooling is all about providing the best learning opportunities for young people to make the most of their lives as self directed, self determined and creative individuals. Preparing our students today for tomorrow’s unknown world. In essence, strong library and information services are essential to a learning program that values the cognitive, cultural, social, affective technological land spiritual development of individuals. meanwhile I don't want to discuss about the present library status but will give you how to improve present position to next level with support and help of the school management.

The school library is an educational and cultural center where individuals are exposed to ideas through the use of print and non-print resources in many media formats. The school library fosters the development of lifelong learning abilities and a love of reading in It’s students. It also provides teachers with instructional materials and professional resources.
On the basis of my previous years experience I want to develop a three years or five years plan with the assistance of an advisory committee, broadly representative of many disciplines. Setting yearly goals following the suggestion in the administrator remarks. Below I have mentioned some of the important things to attract students to the library. I strongly believe these three important aspects to develop library in all the way for students learning.

This report is based on the survey on the library, one of the many services available at Sheridan College. The survey was conducted with ESL programs students and staff at Sheridan College on 10-11 February 2011. The number of students who filled the questionnaire is eighteen students. The questionnaire consists of six main questions with some additional detailed questions about students (their ESL program levels, how long they have been in college, how frequently they have used library and which kinds of materials or services they have dealt with), also about their satisfaction levels on different areas of library 's facilities and services. We had been interviewing, for fifteen minutes, Mrs. Kathleen Oakey who is the Assistant Manager of the library to get some information about the library and her opinions about its services and problems. We noticed shortcoming in orientation program about library services for ESL students and most of them use the library for limited purposes. We observed that the level of noise in the library is unsatisfactory. In conclusion, we recommend that ESL programs must have a one day orientation program for all ESL students; and there should be strict regulations to preserve quietness in the library. We advise the management of the library to add more copies for most borrowed books and diversify the contents of the library.…

There are many improvements that can be made to our school. These improvements will progress the school into a higher grade of learning for students. There are many different facets to our school and small, inexpensive, environmentally friendly changes need to be made. Making changes to the school will help the students achieve higher grades, and therefore have even more university and college acceptance. Improvements such as free internet, a library on campus and free parking will for sure be solutions with a positive aftermath. My first suggestion to improving the school is free internet. Internet can be a positive solution for those students in St.Louis that English is not their first language. They can access translation sites to help them better understand the reading material and course assignments. Diagrams for courses with maps and graphs can be accessed on the internet. This will save paper for teacher, therefore creating a more environmentally friendly place and also will help students see the diagrams first hand in colour. We have decided as a democratic society that education is a right, with this right we must provide the tools to make it accessible, the internet will further progress students learning in variable ways. My second suggestion is that we have a library on campus. Through the library we can borrow books; this is a great solution to those who can’t afford to buy books. Buying books outside of school can be expensive and what can you do with them after you read them, borrowing them for the library is a simple and environmentally friendly solution. The library is a good place also to work on assignments and group projects on the lunch hour, this helps students get the work done and hand it in on time and also provides a work space other than their house. In addition to the above point, since we decided education is a right, it is imperative that a library be added for those who can’t afford a computer, internet etc. A library is a place for…

School is a very important place for students to develop their skills for their life after school. I also believe that in order to achieve that, you need to be capable to sustain a learning environment. To maximize student effectiveness, I think it is necessary for the students themselves to choose how their learning environment is created. There are three main things I would like to add on to the school to improve it. First, I would like to create a larger library, for a greater span of learning capability through the literature found in the library. Second, I would like to have a indoor field, with artificial grass, so we can achieve more athletic activity in the wintertime. Thirdly, I would want a wider hallway, to make it easier to navigate through the hallways when loitering becomes a difficulty to do so. I think that by adding these three things to start could possibly improve our learning capabilities not only mentally, but physically as well.…

The ghost of Madam Nee Babrax Kaur would indeed be very ecstatic without any shadow of doubt with the way our school’s library looks today. A walk down memory lane would certainly remind us of how the library looked before and the drastic transformation it has undergone today. With what looked like a rustic old library now outlines a contemporary look with a touch of sleekness. From the Cedar countertop all the way to the little grafitis hanging on the walls really does define the term “into the today’s zone”. The space has also been very wisely segregated with the ICT section on one side and the reading section on another giving much intended free space encouraging efficient mobility as opposed to last time’s morning congestion. All of these would not have been possible without the two masterminds who I would say the pioneers behind this success, our beloved ex-principal Mr.…
